Assistant Financial Controller

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Financial Controller to play a pivotal role in the pre-opening and launch of Sofitel Dublin Airport Hotel—a luxury flagship property managed by the award-winning Arora Group in partnership with Accor’s Sofitel brand.

Directly connected to Terminal 2, this landmark hotel will redefine the guest experience at one of Europe’s busiest international gateways and will feature:

A bit about what you will do...  

The Assistant Financial Controller provides hands-on support across the hotel finance function, ensuring transactions, reconciliations, controls and reporting are accurate and completed on time. The role works closely with operational departments, Head Office and external partners and assumes delegated responsibility during the Financial Controller's absence.

• Support the successful pre-opening of the hotel's Finance function, including systems implementation, process development, controls and operational readiness.
• Assist in the setup and management of financial systems, reporting procedures, banking processes and internal controls.
• Coordinate daily finance activities across revenue accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, banking and general ledger functions.
• Review revenue reporting, reconciliations, banking activity and financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Support supplier and customer account management, credit control processes and the accurate processing of invoices, payments and purchase orders.
• Help maintain strong financial controls, ensuring compliance with company policies, approval procedures and audit requirements.
• Assist with month-end processes, including journals, accruals, reconciliations and management reporting.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepancies, ensuring issues are resolved promptly and accurately.
• Support the preparation of management accounts, forecasts, budgets and financial performance analysis.
• Provide financial guidance and support to operational departments, helping managers understand costs, budgets and business performance.
• Assist with cash flow management, working capital monitoring and financial planning activities.
• Support VAT compliance, statutory reporting, external audits and regulatory requirements.
• Supervise and develop Finance team members, providing coaching, training and day-to-day support.
• Deputise for the Financial Controller when required, ensuring continuity of financial operations and reporting.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes, systems and reporting capabilities.
• Build strong working relationships with operational teams, Head Office, auditors, suppliers, banks and other stakeholders.

More about you...  

• Relevant experience in hotel finance or a comparable operational finance environment, including general ledger, reconciliations, controls and month-end reporting.
• An accounting qualification, part qualification or relevant finance degree is desirable; a strong record of practical hotel accounting experience will also be considered.
• Working knowledge of Irish VAT and statutory accounting requirements, with the ability to recognise issues requiring specialist or senior review.
• Experience supporting budgets, forecasts, management accounts, external audit and balance-sheet control.
• Strong Microsoft Excel and general Microsoft Office skills; experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, Power BI and hotel PMS or POS systems is desirable.
• Excellent numerical accuracy, analytical ability, organisation and attention to detail, with confidence meeting demanding reporting deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication, sound judgement and the ability to build constructive relationships with operational and Head Office stakeholders.
• Previous experience supervising or coaching finance colleagues is desirable, together with a proactive and improvement-focused approach.
• Ability to work fully on site and provide flexibility in line with hotel operations and period-end requirements.
