Assistant Corporate Controller

Overview

Gilbane is seeking an Assistant Corporate Controller to lead assigned corporate accounting functions and supports the timely and accurate completion of the enterprise financial close and reporting process. The position is responsible for effective accounting operations, account analysis, process discipline, and execution of internal controls within assigned areas. The role partners with the Corporate Controller to improve processes, develop team capabilities, and support consistent application of enterprise accounting policies.

Responsibilities

• Leads assigned accounting functions and ensures accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual activities
• Reviews balance-sheet reconciliations, account analyses, journal entries, and close deliverables
• Executes and monitors internal controls, including segregation of duties and process documentation
• Supports consistent application of U.S. GAAP, IFRS, enterprise accounting policies, and profit-recognition requirements
• Identifies accounting, reporting, and process issues; recommends corrective action and monitors resolution
• Partners with operations and functional teams on day-to-day accounting requirements
• Supports internal and external audit requests within assigned areas
• Develops team members through coaching, feedback, cross-training, and career experiences
• Drives continuous improvement, standardization, and appropriate automation
• Responsible for the career development and coaching of employees through a team of managers
• Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members
• Drives the long-term strategic vision for the organization, serving as a bridge between Executive leadership and operational teams and ensuring alignment of departmental goals with the overarching vision
• Provides strategic insights and recommendations to executive leadership for informed decision-making

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or advanced degree preferred
• 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting experience, including team or major-process leadership
• Construction, engineering, project-based, or similarly complex industry experience preferred
• Experience with financial close, controls, reconciliations, financial systems, and U.S. GAAP
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Strong accounting, analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving capabilities
• Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal-control principles
• Effective team supervision, coaching, and workload management
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Financial-system and spreadsheet proficiency
• Process-improvement orientation and ability to manage competing deadlines

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.

For Rhode Island, this ranges from $180,000 - 220,000 plus benefits and retirement program.
