Canopy by Hilton Boston Downtown is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Human Resources & Accounting Generalist to join our leadership support team. This unique dual-role position provides essential support to both the Human Resources and Accounting departments, ensuring smooth daily operations while delivering an outstanding employee experience.
The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, and thrives in a fast-paced hospitality environment. This position is responsible for supporting payroll, general cashiering, recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, HR administration, regulatory compliance, financial reporting, and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities
Human Resources
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment, including posting positions, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, and preparing offer letters.
- Lead new hire onboarding, orientation, and HRIS (ADP) administration.
- Maintain employee records, personnel files, and HR documentation while ensuring confidentiality.
- Process personnel changes and employment documentation.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits, policies, compensation, and HR procedures.
- Coordinate employee recognition, engagement activities, and team member events.
- Administer Workers' Compensation, unemployment claims, incident reporting, and workplace safety initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, Hilton standards, and company policies.
- Serve as the Human Resources representative in the absence of the Director of Human Resources.
- Plan, coordinate, and support employee engagement initiatives, recognition programs, team member events, and community service activities that foster a positive workplace culture and strengthen our commitment to the local community.
Accounting
- Perform General Cashiering duties in accordance with Hilton and Olshan Properties policies.
- Reconcile daily cash transactions and prepare bank deposits.
- Conduct staff bank and house bank audits.
- Assist with payroll audits, month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Support internal and external financial audits.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and financial documentation.
- Provide administrative support to the Controller and Accounting department.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum one year of Human Resources experience preferred.
- Minimum one year of Accounting experience preferred.
- Previous hotel or hospitality experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with ADP or another HRIS/payroll system is highly desirable.
Skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and perform general office tasks.
