Role overview
Avenue Z is seeking an organized, analytical Accounting Analyst based in Orlando, FL, to support our Senior Vice President of Finance, across day-to-day accounting operations and broader financial planning and analysis.
The Accounting Analyst will help maintain accurate financial records, support the monthly close, prepare recurring reports, track cash flow and budgets, and turn financial information into clear insights for decision-making. The ideal candidate will bridge the foundational technical training of public accounting with the operational agility and practical mindset of private corporate accounting. The right person will bring strong follow-through, sound judgment, discretion, and a willingness to identify and improve processes rather than simply complete transactions.
Key responsibilities
Accounting operations
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable workflows, including invoice review, coding, approvals, payment tracking, collections follow-up, and vendor communication.
- Prepare bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Assist with journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany activity, and other general ledger activities.
- Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation for transactions, reconciliations, approvals, and supporting schedules.
- Help monitor recurring expenses, subscriptions, contractor payments, and other operating costs for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate coding.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to obtain missing information and ensure financial transactions are recorded on a timely basis.
Financial reporting and close support
- Support the monthly and year-end close process by maintaining close checklists, preparing schedules, and following up on open items.
- Prepare recurring management reports and financial schedules, including income statement, balance sheet, cash activity, budget-to-actual results, and key expense summaries.
- Review financial results to identify trends, anomalies, or monthly variances providing clear explanations and data driven insights to leadership.
- Help improve the consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting across entities, departments, and cost categories.
- Build clear summaries and visuals that enable finance and leadership to understand business performance.
Budgeting, cash flow, and analysis
- Maintain budget, forecast, and actual-tracking files in partnership with the finance team and department leaders.
- Track cash inflows, outflows, upcoming obligations, and expected timing to support short-term cash-flow visibility.
- Prepare variance analyses and explain key drivers behind changes in revenue, expenses, headcount costs, vendor spend, and other financial categories.
- Assist with scenario analysis, financial models, and ad hoc analysis for operating decisions, planning, and leadership requests.
- Identify recurring reporting needs and develop repeatable templates, dashboards, and processes that reduce manual work.
Process improvement and cross-functional support
- Document accounting and finance procedures, deadlines, ownership, and required approvals.
- Identify control gaps, process bottlenecks, and opportunities to improve data quality or automation.
- Partner with People Operations, department leaders, and external vendors when accounting information intersects with payroll, benefits, contractors, purchasing, or entity administration.
- Support finance-related work associated with new entities, acquisitions, integrations, or business changes as assigned.
- Handle confidential financial and employee-related information with discretion and sound judgment.
What success looks like
- Financial records, reconciliations, and supporting schedules are accurate, complete, and delivered on time.
- Monthly close activities are organized, with clear ownership and fewer unresolved or last-minute items.
- Brett and the finance team have dependable visibility into cash flow, budget performance, upcoming obligations, and material variances.
- Reporting is easy to understand and includes concise explanations of what changed and why it matters.
- Vendors and internal stakeholders receive timely, professional follow-up on finance-related questions.
- Repetitive processes become more standardized, documented, and efficient over time.
- Potential issues are surfaced early, with the relevant facts and a recommended next step.
Qualifications and Requirements
- 3–5 years of experience in accounting, finance, audit, or a closely related analytical role.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, economics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, accruals, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills, including formulas, lookups, pivot tables, and the ability to structure and validate data.
- Ability to analyze financial information, identify trends or inconsistencies, and communicate findings clearly.
