HYDAC is a family-owned and operated business with a vibrant and rewarding working environment for our employees across the country. Our goal is to provide quality products, components and services that meet our customer expectations while being committed to the protection and preservation of our environment. HYDAC’s passionate team designs and manufactures a comprehensive line of innovative and reliable solutions optimized for any demand our customers require.
The Trade Compliance Analyst owns and strengthens HYDAC’s day-to-day U.S. import compliance for fluid power components. This is a hands-on individual-contributor role for someone who already knows U.S. import operations — tariff classification, USMCA qualification, duty determination, and CBP requirements — and applies that expertise within a fast-moving manufacturing supply chain. The Analyst partners closely with Purchasing, Logistics, Customer Service, customs brokers, and HYDAC’s supplier network to ensure every entry is accurate, defensible, and audit-ready, coordinating with brokers and freight forwarders rather than being managed by them.
You will make an impact in this role by:
Import Compliance Operations
- Manage day-to-day U.S. import operations for fluid power components, ensuring entries filed by HYDAC’s customs brokers are accurate, timely, and compliant with CBP requirements.
- Review entries, entry summaries, and Importer Security Filings (ISF) for accuracy before and after filing.
- Coordinate post-entry corrections and Post-Summary Corrections (PSC) when errors or updates are identified.
Tariff Classification (HTS)
- Determine and maintain Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTSUS) classifications for products and components; keep classification records current and well documented.
- Apply the General Rules of Interpretation and reference CBP CROSS rulings on close or ambiguous classifications.
- Maintain a centralized classification database and drive consistency across SKUs, ERP data, and customer-facing documentation.
USMCA & Country of Origin
- Review, validate, and solicit USMCA certifications of origin from suppliers; assess rules-of-origin qualification (tariff-shift and, where applicable, Regional Value Content).
- Maintain supporting origin documentation for suppliers and finished goods.
- Make and document country-of-origin determinations consistent with the substantial transformation standard.
Duty & Tariff Determination
- Calculate duties and landed costs; monitor applicable tariffs, including Section 301 and other additional duties.
- Identify duty-savings opportunities under available trade programs and quantify potential savings for leadership.
- Partner with Purchasing on landed-cost and origin considerations ahead of sourcing decisions.
CBP Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Maintain compliance records and product databases in line with CBP / 19 CFR requirements, including reasonable-care documentation.
- Support internal reviews, CBP inquiries (e.g., CF-28 Requests for Information), audits, and prior disclosures.
- Maintain audit trails that hold up under CBP or third-party review.
Broker & Partner Coordination
- Serve as the point of contact for customs brokers and freight forwarders; resolve documentation, valuation, and clearance issues quickly.
- Communicate clearance status, holds, and documentation needs to Purchasing, Logistics, and Customer Service.
Regulatory Monitoring & Process Improvement
- Track changes to tariffs, trade agreements, and CBP / Department of Homeland Security regulations, and communicate the impact to internal stakeholders.
- Help build and document repeatable, audit-ready compliance procedures and controls as import volume grows.
- Contribute to internal standard work, onboarding materials, and training on import-compliance touchpoints for adjacent teams.
Key skills and attributes include:
- Attention to detail — manages entry documentation, records, and audit trails with precision.
- Technical judgment — makes defensible classification and origin calls; knows when to consult CROSS or seek a binding ruling.
- Cross-functional collaboration — works effectively with Purchasing, Logistics, Customer Service, brokers, and suppliers.
- Communication — clear written and verbal communication with brokers, suppliers, and internal teams; determinations that hold up under audit.
- Ownership — stands behind determinations and follows through on commitments.
- Composure — stays clear-headed and moves fast when a shipment is held or CBP inquires.
To be considered for the Trade Compliance Analyst role, you must have the following minimum qualifications:
Education
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
Experience

- Demonstrated ability to classify products under the HTS and determine applicable duties and tariffs.
- Working knowledge of USMCA rules of origin and certification-of-origin requirements.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Solid understanding of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) import regulations, entry processes, and recordkeeping requirements (19 CFR).
- Strong attention to detail and comfort managing entry documentation, records, and audit trails.
- Clear written and verbal communication with brokers, suppliers, and internal teams.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing requests, and meet filing and audit deadlines.
Systems & Tools
- Extreme Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; comfort working in an ERP system (HYDAC uses SAP).
- Ability to work in trade-compliance / global trade management (GTM) systems and CBP’s ACE portal.
- Microsoft Office — Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.
Preferred Skills / Nice to Have
- Experience importing industrial, hydraulic, or fluid power components, or working in a manufacturing environment.
- Progress toward or completion of a U.S. Customs Broker License (LCB) or Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) credential.
- Familiarity with duty-savings programs — Foreign-Trade Zones (FTZ), duty drawback, First Sale for Export, or classification rulings.
- Hands-on experience with CBP’s ACE portal and post-entry processes.
- Exposure to export controls (EAR / ITAR) and dual-use screening.
- Bilingual English and Spanish — useful for Mexico-based supplier coordination.
