We are partnering with a well-established Sacramento organization seeking a Staff Accountant to join its collaborative accounting team. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in general accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, month-end close, and grant accounting.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Perform monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close.
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Monitor and reconcile grant activity, ensuring expenditures are accurately recorded and comply with grant requirements.
- Assist with grant reporting and maintain supporting documentation for internal and external reporting.
- Prepare budget-to-actual analyses and financial reports.
- Review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and billing activity for accuracy.
- Support annual audits by preparing schedules and responding to audit requests.
- Assist with budgeting, financial analysis, and special accounting projects.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Collaborate with accounting leadership and cross-functional teams to support day-to-day financial operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
- 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close.
- Experience with grant accounting and grant compliance is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with ERP/accounting software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a collaborative, team-first mindset.
