Senior Bookkeeper / QuickBooks Specialist (Temporary)
Location: St. Louis, MO
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Duration: Temporary, Short-Term (Approximately 3 weeks to 2 months)
Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
We are seeking an experienced Senior Bookkeeper / QuickBooks Specialist to assist a well-established nonprofit organization with a critical accounting cleanup project. This position is ideal for someone who thrives on organizing complex financial records, enjoys problem-solving, and can work independently with minimal supervision.
The successful candidate will step into an active accounting environment following the unexpected departure of a long-time employee. You'll help bring financial records up to date, support month-end close activities, and assist in improving accounting processes while working across multiple QuickBooks company files.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and update financial records using QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus 2024.
- Perform full-cycle bookkeeping functions, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Enter and reconcile bank, credit card, and investment transactions.
- Prepare journal entries, including payroll and month-end adjustments.
- Complete bank and investment account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end close procedures.
- Record cemetery sales and related accounting transactions.
- Maintain accurate accounting records across multiple QuickBooks company files.
- Organize accounting documentation and assist with file management.
- Identify process improvements and recommend more efficient accounting practices when appropriate.
- Work closely with the Accounting Manager to prioritize and complete outstanding projects.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience using QuickBooks Desktop (Pro Plus experience strongly preferred).
- Strong bookkeeping and general accounting background.
- Experience with:
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Bank and credit card reconciliations
- Journal entries
- Month-end close
- General Ledger maintenance
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience assisting with accounting clean-up projects is highly desirable.
- Nonprofit accounting experience is a plus but not required.
