Mill Controller

Position Title: Mill Controller Pay Rate : $137,400-$183,200 Multiple factors, including Individual experience, skills and abilities will determine where an employee is ultimately placed in the pay range. Category/Shift : Salaried Full-Time Physical Location : 601 County Rd 78 Selma, Al The Controller plans, develops, organizes and administers the financial operating policy, procedures, internal controls and other financial activities of the Riverdale Mill. This position acts as the financial advisor and participates in the general management of the mill by adding the pursuit and achievement of mill, business group, and corporate goals and objectives. The Mill Controller directs the financial functions at the mill with additional assistance to the Purchasing department. This position is also responsible for the safekeeping and protection of all assets and interests of the company, including real and personal property and related administrative functions, i.e. legal contracts and agreements, insurance coverage and claims. The Mill Controller reports directly to the Riverdale Mill Manager and is a member of the mill’s Lead Team. The Job You Will Perform: The Mill Controller will work closely with a variety of different departments throughout the mill including operations, maintenance and engineering, and management. The Mill Controller will be accountable for the following primary job responsibilities: Provide visible and active leadership in delivering excellent safety results Support 5S program for the area and drive improvement projects, audit systems, and excellent results Provide direct support for and participation in the mill’s structured cost reduction efforts and team Lead and deliver results through GMS-based processes and systems Provide support for capital project development and implementation Implement financial systems to improve and sustain results Actively participate in all aspect of Mill’s Lead Team Provide support for the budgeting cycle targeted at delivering year-over-year savings Ensure optimum profitability of the mill through participation in the effective, safe and efficient management, direction and guidance of the personnel and assets of the business Report accurate and timely financial and operating statistical information to identify potential business problems and opportunities Maintain compliance of efficient internal controls on all transactions of company assets and interests, including legal, state and local taxes and insurance claims Ensure long-range growth and achievement of mill and company objectives by leading the planning process for operating budget, facility plan, capital and repair budget, forecasting variances, etc. Review/analyze key performance measures and variances Develop the annual budget and assure that product cost information is accurate Monthly reporting and communication of financial performance against objectives Ensure accurate and timely financial and operating statistical information for the identification of potential business problems and opportunities Develop tools that increase visibility of process impacts on mill financial performance and increase accuracy of monthly forecasting Build an effective team by recruiting, transferring, organizing and developing a viable and dynamic management structure Manage timely and efficient processing of all mill payrolls and vendor/contractor payments Review and control the manufacturing and financial results of the mill and make recommendations and/or alert responsible management staff or problems and opportunities Plan and direct the implementation of new procedures and controls as required by the dynamic change in facilities, products, and corporate policies and procedures Desired Skills: Instill safety as a core value within the team and effectively communicate a shared vision for safety Quickly develop thorough knowledge of mill equipment and systems Ability to evaluate and streamline processes to reduce inefficiency and increase capacity of organization to complete value-added activity Utilize the International Paper Change Process to drive change A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Economics or related discipline is required The Skills You Will Bring: 7-10 years of finance experience, with prior financial analyst experience in a paper mill preferred Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to work effectively with others are required Geographic flexibility is necessary to include periodic business travel Skilled in using spreadsheet programs (Microsoft Excel) and other databases (SAP) Qualified candidates have strong leadership skills focused on accountability and results, and have strong organization and planning skills.
