The organization manages approximately $90 million in annual revenue and is affiliated with multiple real estate entities. They are known for delivering complex construction and demolition projects throughout the New York metropolitan area.
Position Summary:The company is seeking an experienced and hands-on Controller to lead the company's accounting and financial operations. This is a confidential search for a highly organized, conscientious professional who can oversee day-to-day accounting functions, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, and provide strong leadership to the accounting team.
The ideal candidate will bring significant experience within the construction industry, preferably with demolition or related contracting businesses, and possess the ability to establish accountability, improve processes, and maintain accurate financial records in a fast-paced environment.
This position is fully onsite, five days per week.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the company and affiliated entities.
Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Supervise and support the accounting team, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll functions.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial reporting processes.
Oversee cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Ensure accurate job costing, project accounting, and revenue recognition.
Partner with ownership and executive leadership to provide financial insights and operational support.
Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, banks, and other financial partners.
Monitor compliance with all federal, state, and local tax and reporting requirements.
Identify process improvements and implement best practices to enhance efficiency and accountability.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA designation preferred but not required.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
Construction industry experience is required.
Demolition, heavy civil, specialty contracting, or related industry experience strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of:
- Construction accounting.
- Job costing.
- Work-in-progress (WIP) schedules.
- Financial statement preparation.
- Budgeting and forecasting.
- Cash flow management.
Experience managing accounting staff and day-to-day accounting operations.
Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems; experience with MQ is a plus.
Experience overseeing payroll operations; familiarity with payroll system implementations is beneficial.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication abilities.

Compensation: $160,000 - $175,000.
