WHAT WILL YOU DO AS AN ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE REPRESENTATIVE / CODER II?

The Accounts Receivable Representative / Coder II is responsible for achieving accurate and timely accounting of professional accounts receivable while ensuring appropriate coding, billing, claim submission, and reimbursement activities. This role reviews and resolves outstanding accounts, coding edits, denials, and payment discrepancies while maintaining compliance with billing and coding regulations.

Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable Management

• Review and process account activity, including charges, payments, adjustments, and claim submissions.
• Monitor outstanding accounts receivable and follow up with insurance carriers and patients to secure timely payment.
• Review aging accounts and ensure appropriate follow-up documentation and activity.
• Research and resolve payment discrepancies and reimbursement issues.

Coding and Claims Review

• Review coding accuracy and resolve coding edits and denials.
• Apply CPT, HCPCS, and ICD coding guidelines accurately.
• Review claim exceptions, billing edits, and denial reports to identify and correct errors.
• Ensure claims are submitted accurately and timely to the appropriate payer.

Insurance and Payer Relations

• Communicate with insurance companies regarding claim status, denials, and reimbursement issues.
• Participate in payer communications to resolve outstanding issues and improve payment outcomes.
• Analyze remittance reports and coordinate corrections as needed.

Customer Service

• Assist patients with questions regarding billing, insurance coverage, balances, deductibles, and payment responsibilities.
• Respond professionally to inquiries from patients, providers, insurance companies, and external stakeholders.
• Provide information regarding available financial assistance programs when appropriate.

Financial Processing

• Receive and process patient payments accurately.
• Reconcile daily transactions and maintain accurate financial records.
• Research unidentified payments and ensure timely resolution.
• Assist with cash posting questions and payment application processes.

Compliance and Quality

• Maintain compliance with patient privacy and confidentiality standards.
• Complete assigned training and maintain coding certification requirements.
• Collaborate effectively with internal departments to promote efficient revenue cycle operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

WHAT WILL YOU NEED TO BE AN ACCOUNTS RECEIVABLE REPRESENTATIVE / CODER II?

Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate's Degree preferred.

Certification

• Professional Medical Coding Certification required.

Experience

• Minimum of five (5) years of accounts receivable and/or medical coding experience in a physician practice, hospital, or healthcare setting required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records, reimbursement methodologies, CPT, HCPCS, and ICD coding required.
• Experience with Windows-based applications, including Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Experience with Soarian and Cerner billing and EMR systems preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to push, pull, lift, and move up to 15 pounds.
• Ability to perform repetitive manual tasks, including keyboarding, data entry, filing, and writing for extended periods.
• Ability to remain stationary at a workstation for prolonged periods of time.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

Salary Range:  $18.33 - 26.58/hour    Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the state.
