Salary Range: $60,000$75,000 annually (Midpoint: $67,500)

JOB SUMMARY 

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians (PRCI) and affiliated entities. This position performs core accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and support for month-end and year-end close processes.

Working under the direction of the Controller, the Staff Accountant ensures the accuracy and completeness of financial records and supports compliance with established accounting procedures and internal controls.

This role focuses on transactional accuracy, consistency, and timely processing of financial data to support overall financial integrity and audit readiness.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

• Prepare and record journal entries and maintain general ledger activity

• Perform account reconciliations, including bank and balance sheet accounts, and resolve discrepancies

• Support month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation

• Review financial transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper coding

• Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as needed

• Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation

• Support audit preparation by gathering and organizing required documentation

• Ensure compliance with established accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls

• Assist in maintaining accounting systems and ensuring data integrity

• Identify and communicate discrepancies, errors, or process issues to the Controller or Senior Accountant

• Collaborate with accounting staff to ensure consistent and efficient workflows

• Perform other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field preferred; Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered

• Minimum of two (2) years of accounting or related experience

• Basic understanding of accounting principles and general ledger processes

• Experience with account reconciliations and financial recordkeeping

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel

• Experience with accounting systems and ability to learn PRCI systems

• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening

• Must be able to pass a background investigation

• Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license and insurable driving record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field

• Experience in governmental, Tribal, or nonprofit accounting environments

• Experience with multi-entity accounting structures

• Familiarity with audit processes and supporting documentation

• Experience with accounting systems such as Intacct or similar platforms

TRIBAL PREFERENCE STATEMENT:

In accordance with applicable Tribal law and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians (PRCI) Administration provides employment preference to enrolled PRCI Tribal Members. To qualify, applicants must submit valid proof of enrollment. Tribal Members who meet the minimum qualifications will be given preference in hiring, promotion, transfer, and layoff decisions. During the interview process, PRCI Tribal Members will receive an additional 7.5 points (10% of the 75-point interview rubric). Non-PRCI Native American candidates will receive an additional 5 points (6.7% of the total points) in accordance with Indian Preference guidelines. 

INDIAN PREFERENCE STATEMENT:

In compliance with 25 CFR Part 276 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Sections 701(b) and 703(i), employment preference shall be given to qualified applicants who are enrolled members of the Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians, and secondarily, to another qualified American Indian/Alaska Native Candidate.
