Location: Madison, Wisconsin – This is a full-time, 100% on-site leadership opportunity where you'll collaborate closely with executives, project managers, and operations teams in a fast-paced construction environment.

Note: To be considered, candidates must have at least 2+ years of Controller-level accounting experience within the construction or mechanical contracting industry. Construction accounting experience is required.

Job Description

• Lead all accounting and financial operations for a growing construction organization.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
• Monitor financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability.
• Manage all accounting functions including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger.
• Partner with project managers to review job costing, labor analysis, and project profitability.
• Perform cost analysis and variance reporting to identify opportunities for improved financial performance.
• Support pricing strategies, forecasting, and long-term business planning.
• Coordinate annual audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Manage insurance renewals, claims, audits, and related financial activities.
• Develop, mentor, and lead the accounting team while fostering a collaborative work environment.
• Serve as a trusted financial advisor to executive leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of Controller-level accounting experience in construction or mechanical contracting.
• Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting.
• Experience managing accounting teams.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with Sage 300 CRE is highly preferred.
• CPA or Master's degree is a plus.
• Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
