We're seeking a highly organized Controller to serve as the financial and operational backbone of a growing education and language services company. This generalist role covers finance, payroll, some HR, compliance, and vendor management — ideal for someone who thrives on variety and ownership. This is an in-person job based in Wilmington, DE, on Augustine Cutoff. We are a small business with a family atmosphere that cares about its employees and work-life balance. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage monthly billing/invoicing and collections across multiple business lines 

• Handle cash management, banking, and reconciliations 

• Oversee accounts payable, vendor compliance, and 1099 prep 

• Track contracts, POs, and corporate governance records 

• Run payroll (26 cycles/year), benefits administration, and 401(k) compliance 

• Manage hiring, onboarding, and HR administration 

• Prepare monthly financial reports (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) 

• Handle tax filings, multi-state compliance, and CPA coordination 

• Maintain insurance coverage, fixed assets, and facility safety compliance 

Requirements:

• 5+ years of bookkeeping, payroll, and/or office management experience 

• Proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks Online; payroll platform experience (Paychex preferred) 

• Comfortable using AI tools in daily work and having problem-solving skills

• Knowledge of multi-state business filings, 1099s, and W-2 processing 

• Experience administering employee benefits and 401(k) plans
