Accounting Generalist

Please note this a 15-Month Contract position.Function:The Accounting Generalist is responsible for providing analytical, administrative, and data entry services. This includes processing and monitoring payments and expenditures. Providing these services in an effective and efficient manner, the incumbent will ensure that payments are accurate and timely, and that vendors and suppliers are paid within established time limits.Major Job Responsibilities:Processing of vendor invoices and prepare and process electronic transfers and payments.Handling client and vendor queries in a timely and professional manner.Create and maintain accurate client and vendor files.Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliations and reporting as assigned.Update and maintain various tracking systems, spreadsheets and reports.Receive, research, and resolve a variety of internal and external inquiries including communicating the resolution of discrepancies to appropriate persons.File, maintain, and distribute accounting documents, records, and reports.Maintain the confidentiality of client information as per legislation.Maintaining accurate journals, ledgers, and books of account, including the preparation of general journal entries when required.Preparation and reconciliation of G/L accounts.Assist with process/procedure creation, maintenance, and improvement.Assist with preparation and coordination of the audit process.Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures.Application and discharge of government benefits for children/youth.Monitoring and reconciling Fund balances as required.Any other duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Finance Manager.Knowledge and Skills Required:Sound knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and accounting practices.Must be proficient using computerized accounting software.Moderate to Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, Nested Formulas, Power Pivot, Power Query).Familiarity with Office365 applications (Outlook, Teams, Planner, Tasks, OneNote, SharePoint).Excellent written, verbal and analytical skills.The ability to adapt to shifting priorities, demands, and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.Comfortable working in a changing environment, adapting quickly to new practices.Ability to work as a team member using a solution-focused approach with others to move towards the achievement of the department’s goals and creating a culture of collaboration.Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.Strong analytical and financial analysis skills, with attention to fine detail.Ability to work independently.Pass a Vulnerable Sector police check.Hold a valid driver’s license.Qualifications:Minimum College Diploma in Accounting or Finance (or equivalent).1-3 years accounts payable or general accounting experience.Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy and analytical thinking required.Ability to problem solve, troubleshoot, and use critical thinking skills required.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to work effectively in a team atmosphere, with clients, vendors, and all levels of management.Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet departmental deadlines.Positive and solutions-focused personality.Salary:Salary range $58,691.00 - $68,945.00, commensurate with education and experience.Employment Equity:CAS SDG values building a workforce that is reflective of the diversity in our community and strongly encourages applications from all qualified individuals, especially those who can provide perspectives and contribute to a further diversification of ideas.Please indicate in the application process should you identify as First Nations, Inuit and Métis; African-Canadian/Black heritage; or if you are a member of another racialized or otherwise marginalized group.AODA:We comply with the AODA (Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act).
