Accountant

PURPOSE
Under the general supervision of the Controller, to perform professional accounting functions in the maintenance of the district books, records, and computerized accounts. Record and compile financial data covering a variety of funds.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary function of an employee in this class is to provide accounting services for the general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, fixed assets, grants accounting, and special assessments. This position also prepares required financial reports. The work is performed under the supervision of the Controller, but some latitude is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative. The primary duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Files financial reports to the state and other agencies as required:
• Prepare general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts
• Maintains fixed asset accounting system:
• Participates in annual independent audit which requires lead documents and full financial statements;
• Provides accounting support and training as needed:
• Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with District policies, procedures, and safety practices;
• Conduct internal audits as needed:
• Provide accounting support to both District and school building ASB Fund;

Other Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs other related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:

• Solid working knowledge of Excel;
• Analyze and interpret fiscal accounting records and prepare accurate and complete financial reports;
• Maintain records efficiently and accurately and to prepare clear and concise reports;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other District employees, supervisory personnel, and the public;
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
• Ability to work independently;
• Solid attention to detail and high-level of accuracy;
• Maintain strict confidentiality.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred, not required;
• Any equivalent combination of 3 years’ experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL ABILITIES

• Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate effectively on the telephone and in person;
• Sufficient vision or other powers of observation, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and review, evaluate, and prepare a variety of written/typed documents and text materials;
• Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and a personal computer,
• Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to sit and work at a keyboard for an extended period, be able to lift 20 pounds, and work in an office environment.

Yearly by supervisor.
