Staff Accountant

MPD, Inc. is an employee-owned company with a heritage that stretches back to 1899. Originally established in Owensboro, Kentucky, its predecessores companies produced electrical machinery, electric lamps, and electron tubes on the same site where MPD, Inc. operates today. After ten years of ownership by private investors, the management of MPD, Inc. established an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) and purchased essentially all of the outstanding shares of MPD, Inc. stock. MPD, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our professional finance team.

The Staff Accountant will provide financial accounting support to one or more MPD subsidiaries including P&L analysis, and inventory valuation. He or she will also perform various tax functions and other general accounting functions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist in preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements and reports.
• Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and assisting with month-end and year-end closing activities. 
• Collaborates closely with other accounting team members to maintain accurate financial records and provide insightful analysis to management.
• Maintain general ledger accounts and reconcile balances.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies and internal control documentation.
• Support audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
• Identify process improvements and contribute to efficiency initiatives within the accounting department.
• Maintains company credit card accounts.
• Assist and backup Accounts Receivable/Accounts Payable functions. 
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues.
• Assist and backup Treasury Management banking functions.
• Other projects or assignments as requested by management. 

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
2. Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience.
3. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
4. Proficiency with accounting (ERP) software and Microsoft Excel.
5. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
7. Professional certification (CPA/CMA) preferred.
