Staff Accountant

Location: West Loop Office - Chicago, IL (on-site)

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the Company's financial records and supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes. This position is responsible for complex general ledger accounting, account reconciliations,  payroll-related accounting, and internal control compliance for a large, multi-location security services organization employing approximately 13,000 employees nationwide.

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented accounting professional with strong analytical skills, experience working in high-volume environments, and the ability to effectively collaborate across departments including payroll, operations, human resources, and finance leadership.

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepare and record monthly journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, and other general ledger transactions.
• Perform complex balance sheet account reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close activities to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Reconcile cash and payroll-related accounts, including wages, benefits, taxes, workers' compensation, and related liabilities.
• Reconcile intercompany accounts
• Analyze labor costs across multiple locations and business units.
• Review revenue, billing, and expense transactions for accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
• Support external audits by preparing schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation.
• Maintain compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company accounting policies.
• Evaluate and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and workflow efficiencies.
• Partner with operational leaders to resolve accounting discrepancies and provide financial insights.
• Assist with implementation and optimization of accounting systems and reporting tools.
• Support special projects, acquisitions, and growth initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
• CPA designation or active pursuit of CPA preferred.

Experience

• 4-7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• A mix of public accounting and corporate experience is preferred.
• Experience supporting audits and financial reporting processes.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial analysis functions.
• Experience with AI to enhance productivity and efficiency
• Experience with ERP and accounting systems
• Experience with payroll systems and labor-cost accounting is a plus.
• Ability to analyze large datasets and identify trends, discrepancies, and process improvements.

Compensation & Benefits

Target Salary Range: $80,000 - $100,000 annually (DOE)
