State Accountant I — Entry Level

Pay: $22.00–$25.50 per hour, based on experience

About the Role

Code Differently is hiring a State Accountant I for a long-term temporary assignment supporting the Delaware Department of Labor’s Unemployment Insurance Tax Division. This entry-level opportunity is well suited to a recent graduate who wants to gain experience in government accounting and finance.

Working under close supervision, you will review financial transactions, reconcile records, research discrepancies, prepare reports, and help maintain accurate financial information. Training and guidance will be provided as you learn state accounting procedures and financial systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, reconcile, and process financial transactions and accounting records.
• Research discrepancies in financial data and system reports, and help resolve them.
• Prepare, analyze, and distribute financial reports.
• Support the accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of financial information.
• Follow applicable state and federal requirements, policies, and procedures.
• Respond professionally to questions from state agencies, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Use financial systems and software to research and document information.
• Assist with system testing, upgrades, reporting, and compliance projects.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and strengthen internal controls.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
• 0–2 years of relevant experience. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Careful attention to detail and comfort working with numbers and financial data.
• Computer proficiency and a willingness to learn new financial systems.
• Professional written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and handle confidential information responsibly.
