Position at Ruppert Landscape - Corporate
SENIOR CORPORATE ACCOUNTANT
Who We Are
Ruppert Landscape is a leading provider of commercial landscape maintenance and installation services with more than 3,500 employees serving customers from 55+ branches across the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeastern US. We take pride in delivering reliable, high-quality services on a wide range of commercial properties and construction projects. For over 50 years, our mission has been to provide opportunities for our people, take care of our customers, and be good stewards of the environment and our community.
Where You Fit In
As a Senior Corporate Accountant, you will play a high-impact role in a fast-paced corporate accounting environment. This position owns key areas of the general ledger and P&L, including complex areas such as debt, fixed assets, and lease accounting; contributes significantly to the month-end close; and supports audit readiness.
You will also play a key role in the integration of acquisition partners—from opening balance sheet reviews to purchase price allocation support. This is not a maintenance role; it’s an opportunity to help build a scalable, best-in-class accounting function within a collaborative team.
Responsibilities:
- Own assigned general ledger and P&L areas - including complex areas such as debt, fixed assets, rent, intercompany, and lease accounting under ASC 842, ensuring journal entries and supporting schedules are accurate, complete, and review-ready .
- Support month-end close activities including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and variance analysis.
- Prepare and maintain audit-ready workpapers and schedules; serve as a key contact for external auditors, coordinating requests from both Finance and other internal business partners, and timelines.
- Support M&A integration efforts, including opening balance sheet review (validation of acquired trial balances, purchase accounting adjustments, and reconciliation of opening balances to the closing statement), pre-integration close activities, and evaluation of purchase price allocation (PPA) schedules, in collaboration with the Assistant Controller.
- Identify process gaps and implement improvements (e.g., reconciliation frameworks, close checklists, and documentation standards) to enhance scalability and efficiency.
- Prepare and distribute monthly financial reporting packages and management summaries for internal stakeholders and the company's private equity sponsor; support preparation of external financial reporting deliverables, including quarterly debt compliance certificate reporting.
- Support internal controls by identifying risk areas and assisting with the design and implementation of improved procedures.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis, technical accounting research, and special projects assigned.
- Help drive process efficiencies with AI and other automation tools.
Reporting Relationship: Assistant Controller
Schedule: This is an in-office role, with hybrid flexibility considered based on experience and performance.
Compensation: $95,000–$105,000 annually. Actual compensation offered will be based on the candidate's experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
Qualifications:
- 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting experience strongly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; CPA (or active candidacy) preferred.
- Ability to successfully complete a formal background check as a condition of employment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP with the ability to independently assess and apply accounting guidance to complex issues.
- Demonstrated experience preparing reconciliations and month-end close processes.
- Experience preparing audit support and working directly with external auditors.
- Advanced Excel skills; experience with JD Edwards or similar ERP systems preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues and develop practical solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines with attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across departments and leadership levels.
- Exposure to acquisition accounting (ASC 805), including opening balance sheet review or purchase price allocation, preferred.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, initiative, and work ethic.
- Experience in multi-location, decentralized, or service-based organizations preferred.
- Strong team orientation, balanced with the ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned areas.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation package based on experience and qualifications.
- Hands-on learning from day one with ongoing opportunities to learn, grow, and build your career.
- Paid time off and holidays to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance plans, plus flexible spending accounts (FSAs) to help cover healthcare and dependent care expenses.
- 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with confidential support for personal, financial, and wellness needs.
- A people-first, family-oriented culture where teamwork, respect, and growth matter and where your hard work is recognized and appreciated.
