Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for establishing and leading the accounting function for American Geothermal (part of the Swegon Group), with a strong focus on cost accounting, transactional process integrity, and financial controls.
This role will build and standardize core accounting processes, ensuring accurate, timely, and reliable financial results in a manufacturing environment. It will also enhance financial analysis and reporting capabilities to support operational and strategic decision-making.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in manufacturing cost accounting, with the ability to implement structures where processes are still developing.
Cost Accounting & Inventory Management
Lead all cost accounting activities, including:
Standard costing development and updates
Inventory valuation and reconciliation
Cost of goods sold accuracy
Perform detailed variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) and investigate root causes.
Ensure accurate tracking of production costs and alignment with financial reporting
Oversee inventory counts and reconciliation processes.
Financial Close & Transaction Accuracy
Own month-end close for all accounting areas, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and account analysis.
Ensure transactions are recorded in compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial results.
Controls & Process Improvement
Design, implement, and strengthen internal controls over:
Inventory
Costing
Revenue and expenses
Assess current processes and implement improvements to reduce risk and errors.
Establish clear, repeatable workflows for transactional activities (AP, AR, inventory, costing).
Support compliance with internal policies and external reporting requirements.
Transactional Process Ownership
Standardize and improve end-to-end accounting processes, including:
Order-to-cash
Procure-to-pay
Inventory and production accounting
Partner with operations and supply chain teams to ensure transactions reflect business reality.
Address system or process gaps that limit data reliability.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and deliver accurate monthly financial statements and supporting schedules.
Develop clear, actionable reporting on:
Product and project profitability
Cost trends and operational drivers
Provide variance analysis and insights to support management decision-making.
Build reporting that connects operational activity to financial results.
Analytics & Decision Support
Enhance financial analytics capabilities, including:
Margin analysis by product or project
Cost driver analysis
Forecasting and scenario modeling
Translate financial data into insights that improve pricing, cost control, and operational efficiency.
Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
Systems & Data Integrity
Work with ERP and reporting systems to improve:
Data accuracy
Cost tracking
Reporting efficiency
Support system improvements and integration efforts related to accounting and cost data.
Qualifications & Experience
CPA (or equivalent) preferred.
5+ years of accounting experience, including manufacturing cost accounting.
Strong understanding of:
Inventory accounting.
Standard costing and variance analysis.
Financial controls and process design.
Experience working in environments with developing or changing. systems/processes
Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems.
Strong analytical skills and ability to translate data into practical business insights.
Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable building structure from the ground up.
