Senior Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY:

Puyallup Tribal Enterprises (PTE) is seeking a skilled, detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our team. This position supports the financial operations of our growing manufacturing business. This hands-on role is responsible for a broad range of accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, fixed assets, inventory accounting, journal entries, accruals, and financial reporting.

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the month-end close process, financial statement preparation, budgeting and forecasting support, and the continuous improvement of accounting processes and internal controls. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of GAAP, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment while partnering with teams across the organization to support informed business decision-making.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including ownership of balance sheet accounts, preparation of journal entries and accruals, completion of reconciliations and account analyses, in accordance with GAAP
• Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, and supporting schedules, and explain significant account movements and reporting variances
• Maintain fixed asset records and prepare depreciation calculations and entries
• Issue and track purchase orders and maintain vendor records and related documentation
• Supervise assigned staff, including assigning and prioritizing work, reviewing accounting transactions and workpapers, providing technical guidance and coaching, monitoring deadlines and work quality, and contributing to performance evaluations and development planning
• Perform product costing and inventory valuation activities, investigate manufacturing and inventory variances, and analyze product costs and gross margins to support operational and financial decision-making
• Support cycle counts and physical inventories, reconcile count results to the general ledger, and investigate adjustments and shrinkage
• Coordinate the annual budget and quarterly forecast process for assigned areas, including preparing templates, working with department leaders to develop assumptions, consolidating submissions, and validating supporting data
• Maintain budget and forecast models, monitor results against plan, and analyze variances from budget, forecast, prior periods, and operational expectations
• Communicate findings, risks, and recommended actions to finance, operations, production, purchasing, and leadership teams to support business objectives and improve financial performance
• Develop, document, and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls; identify and implement opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work, and address financial risk
• Prepare audit schedules, workpapers, and supporting documentation; coordinate assigned audit requests; and support applicable federal, state, local, tribal, and other regulatory requirements
• Use all company resources efficiently to promote maximum financial results for PTE; maintain PTE equipment and assets to maximize return on investment
• Establish and maintain effective business relationships with all employees, vendors, business partners, government/regulatory entities, and communities in which we operate
• Strictly follow workplace safety measures; safeguard the welfare of all employees, guests, visitors, and business partners at all times; promptly report workplace risks, incidents, injuries, and near misses 
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all sensitive and proprietary business information and safeguard PTE assets at all times

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum      

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• Five+ years of progressive accounting experience, including independent ownership of significant month-end close and financial reporting activities
• Hands-on experience with journal entries, accrual accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, inventory accounting, and product costing
• Experience preparing monthly financial statements and supporting budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP and experience using an ERP system such as Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Dynamics GP, NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, or a comparable system
• Advanced Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookup functions, financial analysis, and reconciliation of large datasets
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate across functions
• High standards of accuracy and attention to detail

• Ability to occasionally work non-standard hours to accommodate business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to pass background check

Preferred      

• CPA or CMA certification
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
• Experience in manufacturing, food production, consumer packaged goods, or another inventory-intensive industry
• Experience supporting external audits and implementing improvements to accounting processes or internal controls
• Experience directly supervising and developing accounting staff
• Practical experience using AI tools to improve accounting efficiency, automate routine work, reconcile or analyze large datasets, and support financial analysis
