About the Role

We are seeking a hands on, forward-thinking Finance & Accounting Manager to take the lead in evolving and scaling the financial foundation of a company positioned for meaningful growth.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Finance

• Manage/own core accounting operations (AR, AP, corporate card, cash management etc.) with a focus on efficiency and control.
• Lead month-end and year-end close processes.
• Own monthly reconciliations for bank accounts, credit cards, loans, and balance sheet accounts.
• Deliver timely, reliable financial statements and insights to leadership. Support management in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
• Support insurance, lease, and financing administration and liaise with outside partners.
• Identify and implement process improvements/automation.
• Establish and maintain strong financial controls, policies, and compliance with GAAP.

Business Partnership & Communication

• Partner with executive management and business unit leaders on financial matters.
• Communicate financial trends, risks, deadlines, and opportunities proactively.
• Explain results clearly and flag issues early with practical solutions.
• Advise leadership in assessing the financial impact of key strategic decisions.
• Improve reporting, processes, and workflows to ensure accurate and timely financial visibility.

Payroll, Benefits & 401(k)

• Own end-to-end payroll operations and related accounting, ensuring accurate processing, compliant tax reporting, and proper handling of all deductions.
• Coordinate benefits administration, renewals, open enrollment, and employee communications.
• Manage 401(k) administration, including contributions, compliance support, and provider coordination.
• Maintain accurate payroll and benefits records.
• Manage relationships with brokers, payroll vendors, retirement plan administrators, and other providers as needed.

Tax & Compliance

• Ensure timely filing and payment of payroll, sales/use, business, and other required taxes.
• Coordinate with outside CPAs or tax advisors on tax preparation, planning, and reporting.
• Prepare and submit required state, local, and federal filings, including 1099s.
• Maintain compliance and support audits, workers' compensation reporting, insurance audits, and related reviews.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience across accounting, financial operations, or small business environments with increasing responsibility.
• Experience in a small or growing business environment preferred.
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and internal controls.
• Experience overseeing payroll, benefits administration, retirement plans, and related tax filings and compliance deadlines.
• Proficiency in Excel and experience working with accounting, payroll, and reporting systems.
• Experience coordinating with external partners, including CPAs, payroll providers, benefits brokers, and retirement plan administrators.
• Highly self-directed with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and drive results independently.
• Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Demonstrates the highest level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling sensitive financial and employee information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• CPA, CMA, MBA or similar certification preferred.
• Experience with QuickBooks Online.
• Experience in professional, investigative, legal, insurance, consulting, or other service-based businesses.
