As we continue to grow through acquisitions and de novo expansion, we are seeking a hands-on Corporate Controller to build and lead a best-in-class accounting function that supports the company's next stage of growth.
Position Summary
The Corporate Controller is the senior accounting leader responsible for the integrity of Areté Health's financial reporting, accounting operations, internal controls, and compliance. This role owns the monthly close process, general ledger, financial statements, cash management, and accounting policies while ensuring the organization maintains accurate, timely, and GAAP-compliant financial records.
The Controller partners closely with the Vice President of FP&A to deliver accurate financial reporting and executive insights while collaborating with the Chief Executive Officer, PE Sponsor's CFO, external accounting partners, auditors, tax advisors, lenders, and operational leadership.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Own the preparation and integrity of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Manage the general ledger, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and balance sheet integrity.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and oversee accounting system administration within Sage or a comparable ERP platform.
- Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Research and resolve technical accounting matters as needed.
Outsourced Accounting Management
- Direct and manage the Company's outsourced accounting partner (LBMC), ensuring timely execution of month-end close activities and accounting operations.
- Oversee service delivery, performance expectations, and continuous process improvements with external accounting providers.
- Review and approve accounting work prepared by outsourced partners to ensure completeness and accuracy.
Cash Management & Treasury
- Oversee daily cash management activities and banking relationships.
- Review bank reconciliations, cash receipts, ACH and wire transactions, and treasury controls.
- Support weekly cash flow reporting and partner with the VP of FP&A on liquidity planning.
- Ensure lender reporting requirements and banking compliance are completed accurately and timely.
Accounting Operations
- Oversee accounts payable, vendor onboarding, vendor maintenance, and payment processing.
- Provide oversight of payroll accounting and related reconciliations.
- Manage lease accounting and fixed asset accounting.
- Ensure accurate recording of intercompany transactions and account transfers where applicable.
Internal Controls, Compliance & Risk Management
- Design, implement, and strengthen internal controls across the accounting function.
- Maintain a strong control environment that supports financial integrity and minimizes operational risk.
- Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, lender covenants, tax reporting requirements, and company accounting policies.
- Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve operational efficiency while maintaining appropriate segregation of duties.
Audit & Tax Coordination
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for external auditors.
- Lead the annual financial statement audit and coordinate all audit deliverables.
- Coordinate with external tax advisors to support federal, state, and local tax compliance.
- Support annual financial statement preparation and regulatory reporting requirements.
Mergers, Acquisitions & Growth
- Support acquisition due diligence, purchase accounting, and financial integration activities.
- Lead accounting integration for newly acquired and de novo clinics.
- Standardize accounting processes across newly integrated operations.
- Partner with operational leadership to ensure successful financial integration and reporting consistency.
Executive Partnership
- Partner with the Vice President of FP&A to prepare monthly and quarterly financial reporting packages for executive leadership, lenders, and the PE Sponsor.
- Maintain regular communication with the PE Sponsor's CFO regarding financial reporting, accounting matters, acquisition integration, lender requests, and strategic initiatives.
- Provide executive leadership with timely, accurate financial information that supports informed decision-making.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Revenue Cycle, Operations, Human Resources, Technology, and other departments to improve financial processes and organizational performance.
Required Qualifications
- Active CPA license required.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of five years of progressive accounting leadership experience, including experience leading month-end close and financial reporting.
- Healthcare accounting experience required; outpatient physical therapy experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working within multi-location healthcare organizations.
- Experience in a high-growth, private equity-backed environment with demonstrated success supporting rapid organizational growth.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations.
- Experience managing outsourced accounting providers or shared service relationships preferred.
- Experience supporting acquisitions, purchase accounting, and financial integrations.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience with Sage or comparable ERP systems.
