Our firm is experiencing rapid growth and is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented professional to join our team as an Accounting Specialist in our Louisville, Kentucky office. This full-time position is responsible for day-to-day accounting functions related to agency-billed accounts, carrier payables, premium tax filings, and account reconciliations. The Accounting Specialist plays a key role in ensuring the accurate recording of insurance transactions, timely payment of carrier balances, compliance with surplus lines and municipal tax requirements, and maintenance of agency accounting records. Key Responsibilities:
Agency-Billed Accounting
Process and maintain agency-billed client accounts.
Apply client payments and ensure accurate posting within the agency management system.
Research and resolve billing discrepancies.
Carrier Payables
Review and reconcile carrier statements.
Prepare and process carrier payments in accordance with due dates.
Investigate and resolve premium, commission, and billing discrepancies with carriers.
Maintain accurate payable records and supporting documentation.
Account Reconciliations
Perform monthly reconciliations of:
- Carrier payables
- Bank accounts
- Research and resolve reconciling items timely.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
Premium Tax & Regulatory Reporting
Prepare and file surplus lines taxes and reports.
Prepare and remit municipal premium taxes and fees.
Maintain filing calendars and monitor reporting deadlines.
Financial Administration
Assist with journal entries and account analysis.
Maintain organized accounting records and supporting documentation.
Support process improvement initiatives and accounting projects.
Desired Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
- 2+ years of accounting, bookkeeping, or insurance accounting experience preferred.
- Experience with agency management systems such as Applied Epic is a plus.
