Position Summary
The Accounting Manager provides leadership and oversight of the Accounting Department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for managing daily accounting operations, overseeing the month-end close process, maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, and preparing financial and regulatory reports. The Accounting Manager fosters a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and team development while supporting the Credit Union's strategic objectives.

Supervise, coach, and evaluate accounting staff, including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and supporting professional development.
Lead the training, development, and performance management of accounting staff, fostering ongoing professional growth and cross-functional knowledge.
Manage the daily operations of the Accounting Department, including accounts payable, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, corporate card expense reporting, investment accounting entries, ATM settlement activity, account reconciliations, payroll accounting, secondary market accounting, and system integrations.
Manage departmental metrics and establish performance standards to drive operational excellence.
Monitor and maintain the integrity of the general ledger and accounting systems.
Oversee the preparation and review of month-end journal entries and ensure the timely and accurate completion of the month-end close process.
Coordinate the reconciliation, documentation, retention, and resolution of outstanding items related to general ledger accounts.
Prepare and review monthly financial statements and related analyses to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and filing of financial statements, Call Reports, and FR2900 reports.
Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), NCUA regulations, and other applicable financial reporting requirements.
Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure operational effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
Research, analyze, and resolve complex accounting issues while providing guidance and support to team members.
Coordinate and support internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations, ensuring timely responses to requests and successful outcomes.
Continuously evaluate accounting processes, systems, and controls to identify opportunities for improvement, efficiency gains, and automation. Collaborate with project teams and vendor partners to implement enhancements and support organizational initiatives.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions and general operating policies and procedures.
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, and punctuation.
Knowledge of personal computer, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software’s.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Knowledge of NCUA regulations and financial institution reporting requirements.
Knowledge of payroll accounting, accounts payable, fixed assets, and investment accounting
Knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis principles
Knowledge of accounting systems, ERP platforms, and financial reporting tools
Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications, and adding devices.
Skilled in financial reporting and analysis.
Skilled in general ledger management and account reconciliation.
Ability to interpret and apply accounting standards, policies, and regulations.
Ability to analyze complex financial data and make sound recommendations.
Ability to identify process inefficiencies and implement effective solutions.
Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

The ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across the office and load them onto shelves for various needs.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Work involves the typical risks and discomforts associated with an office environment but is usually in an adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated area.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a financial institution or credit union environment required.
Experience preparing financial statements, account reconciliations, and regulatory reports required.
Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
Previous supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
Workday and Symitar/Jack Henry experience preferred.
