About the Role
The Accounting Manager will oversee the accounting function across multiple healthcare services agencies and serve as the hands-on operational leader for accounting. This person will oversee the accounting team and day-to-day accounting activities while allowing the Director of Accounting & Finance to focus more heavily on FP&A, finance strategy, and business growth.
The ideal candidate: is self-motivated, proactive, energetic, and comfortable in an all-hands-on-deck environment. Public accounting experience is a plus, but the most important qualities are strong operational accounting skills, critical thinking, good judgment, and a practical, solutions-oriented approach.
Responsibilities
• Oversee accounting functions across multiple agencies, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
• Lead month-end and year-end close and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting
• Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance reports
• Monitor cash flow, reconcile bank accounts, and oversee daily cash management
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting in partnership with department leadership
• Partner with billing and revenue cycle teams to address claim denials, reimbursement, and collections
• Prepare and review balance sheets, income statements, cash flow statements, accruals, and other financial reporting
• Develop and strengthen internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
• Oversee pharmacy inventory accounting, including variance analysis and COGS impact
• Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid, and payer requirements
• Prepare and submit Medicare/Medicaid cost reports and reimbursement documentation
• Lead internal and external audits and serve as the primary accounting contact for auditors and regulatory agencies
• Partner with operational and clinical leadership to provide financial analysis and business insights
• Identify trends, risks, and opportunities to improve financial performance and operational efficiency
• Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members
• Stay current on healthcare reimbursement and regulatory requirements
Ideal Candidate
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• CPA required
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong hands-on experience with general ledger accounting, journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statements
• Experience leading or managing an accounting function/team
• Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills
• Practical, solutions-oriented mindset with sound business judgment
• Self-motivated, proactive and comfortable taking ownership
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, growing, hands-on environment
• Healthcare experience is preferred but not required
• Experience with NetSmart, and/or Sage is a plus
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
