Location: Greater Sacramento Area (Hybrid Schedule)

Compensation: $115,000 - $125,000 base salary, depending on experience, plus discretionary annual bonus

A growing organization is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of a multi-entity portfolio. This position will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting operational leaders, and developing a high-performing accounting team.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for supervising accounting staff, overseeing transactional accounting activities, and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting. This role serves as the primary reviewer of financial activity across multiple entities and works closely with operations and executive leadership to support business objectives.

This position reports to senior finance leadership and is responsible for maintaining efficient accounting processes, supporting month-end close activities, monitoring cash flow, and ensuring compliance with company policies and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Cash Management

• Oversee daily accounting operations, including receivables, payables, deposits, and cash management activities.
• Review and approve vendor payments, allocations, and recurring accounting transactions.
• Ensure timely and accurate reconciliation of multiple bank accounts and intercompany balances.
• Review cash activity and coordinate transfers to support operational funding requirements.
• Monitor company credit card programs, including account administration, transaction review, and reconciliations.
• Oversee payroll-related accounting activities and ensure accurate recording of payroll transactions.
• Review and approve allocations across departments, business units, and entities.
• Prepare and maintain cash flow reporting and liquidity analysis.

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

• Lead and review month-end and year-end close activities.
• Review journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity.
• Prepare and review financial statements and management reporting packages.
• Analyze financial results and investigate variances.
• Monitor reserve accounts, escrow accounts, and other restricted cash balances.
• Assist with annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Support tax preparation efforts by coordinating required financial information and supporting documentation.

Leadership & Team Development

• Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting staff.
• Manage workflow distribution and establish priorities to ensure deadlines are met.
• Provide training and guidance on accounting procedures, systems, and best practices.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Serve as a key resource for accounting system administration and troubleshooting.
• Support system implementations, process enhancements, and workflow automation initiatives.
• Develop and maintain accounting procedures and documentation.
• Partner with operational leaders to improve reporting, efficiency, and internal controls.

Audit & Compliance

• Assist with external audits and other financial reviews.
• Ensure compliance with accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate requests for supporting documentation and audit schedules.
• Identify process improvement opportunities to strengthen financial controls and reporting accuracy.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and month-end close.
• Experience managing multiple entities, locations, business units, or properties.
• Proficiency with accounting and ERP systems.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Preferred

• CPA designation or CPA-track candidate.
• Experience within real estate, property management, construction, hospitality, or other multi-entity environments.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
• Proven ability to improve processes and lead accounting teams.
