Trade Compliance Analyst

The Trade Compliance Analyst supports the Sherwin-Williams North America business on qualification of products for trade and origin related certifications, especially related to Free Trade Agreements and Buy America programs.  The Analyst executes and helps maintain critical business processes that enable significant cost savings in duty refunds, market access in the United States, and overall compliance for international trade.  

This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H1-B visa.

COMPLIANCE SUPPORT

• Understand and apply relevant regulatory requirements for USMCA and Buy America programs.  Identify changes to assigned requirements and share with team, manager, and business, as appropriate.  Solicit and manage supplier-provided origin data, Free Trade Agreement (FTA) documentation, and Harmonized Tariff Code (HTC) information to support trade compliance requirements.  
• Compile and analyze import and export data to identify and support duty refund opportunities.  
• Classify products in accordance with the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
• Support development of compliance strategies.
• Collaborate with logistics, sourcing, legal, and compliance teams to resolve data gaps and ensure regulatory alignment.  Participate in defining business rules for data evaluation. Support user training.
• Serve as business owner for specific parts of systems or systems (including upgrades).  Identify Improvement initiatives for systems.
• Maintain organized records and audit trails to support internal controls, audits, and regulatory inquiries.  

CUSTOMER AND BUSINESS SUPPORT

• Support all Division products, and complete reviews without supervision.
• Respond to routine and non-routine requests from internal customers. Assist Manager in responding to complex internal customer inquiries or certification statements.
• Independently respond to wide scope of routine and non-routine inquiries from external customers.  Manage customer requests for Free Trade certificates by compiling required data, qualifying products under applicable FTAs, and issuing certificates in a timely manner.  
• Report to agencies as required by regulations on a routine basis and support the development of responses to Agency inquiries.
• Serve as the single point of contact for Buy America programs. Work with Manager, as needed, to engage various functions within the business, especially for strategic issues.

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, or cost through changes to key processes.
• Lead lower complexity trade compliance projects.
• Participate on or lead sub teams or workstreams within trade compliance projects.
• Share knowledge and train internal team members and other teams in new and updated requirements and processes.
• Other responsibilities and projects to support the Trade Compliance team, as assigned. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS 

Required:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
• 3 years’ experience in trade compliance, customs brokerage, import/export, transportation, and/or other regulations 
• Experience assessing data quality and completeness from supplier declarations, product master, and customs declarations.
• Experience in monitoring, reading, and interpreting regulations  
• Experience qualifying products for Free Trade Agreements (USMCA, CAFTA, AUSFTA, etc.) by different methodologies
• Experience with Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future for employment visa status
• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age

Preferred:

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in International Business, International Relations, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field 
• Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist  
• 5 years’ experience in trade compliance, customs brokerage, import/export, and/or other regulations
• Experience with import and export transportation
• Experience in coatings, chemicals or materials industry, especially for tariff classification of chemicals  
• Customer service experience
• Experience using US CBP ACE Portal and/or CARM Client Portal
• Experience with E2Open Trade Automation tools  

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Required:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Microsoft Excel
• Strong organizational and analytical skills
• Experience in managing and analyzing large data sets
• Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives and optimizing day-to-day processes. 

Preferred:

• Experience leveraging generative AI tools to research, analyze information, create content, and support business objectives.
• Experience participating in complex cross‑functional projects.
