What you'll do:
As a Tax Manager, your key area of responsibility will be supporting the Senior Manager, Tax in the preparation, analysis, and review of corporate and indirect tax compliance for Geotab’s global entities and cross-border activities, while playing a critical role in tax research and tax planning related to global expansion. You will need to work closely with Geotab's internal departments, external tax advisors, cross-functional colleagues, and tax authorities. To be successful in this role, you will be a collaborative mentor and effective communicator with strong problem-solving skills, emotional intelligence, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment. In addition, the successful candidate will have strong technical tax expertise, deep understanding of IFRS income tax accounting, global tax risk management capabilities, and advanced skills in tax modeling and enterprise software/AI tools.
How you'll make an impact:

Preparation, analysis, and review of regional specific tax compliance, including corporate income tax, indirect tax (e.g., GST/HST, VAT, Sales & Use Tax), informational tax filings, withholding tax filings and other statutory filings across jurisdictions.

Preparation, analysis, and review of regional specific tax provisions and nexus analysis.

Analyze and review global tax compliance, including corporate income tax, indirect tax (e.g., GST/HST, VAT, Sales & Use Tax), informational tax filings, withholding tax filings, and other statutory filings across global jurisdictions (Europe, Australia, etc.).

Research, analyze, and prepare documentation on global tax positions, including corporate income tax, indirect tax, and withholding tax.

Research and advise other internal departments on global corporate tax, indirect tax, and withholding tax related inquiries.

Manage and coordinate responses to tax authority inquiries , escalating complex matters to the Senior Manager, Tax.

Prepare tax research and planning for global expansion initiatives in partnership with the Senior Manager, Tax.

Develop and maintain tax models and proactively partner with external tax advisors to identify optimization opportunities.

Oversee day-to-day compliance with transfer pricing policy and inter-company transaction requirements.

Oversee and update transfer pricing documentation, as required.

Support Geotab global strategic initiatives.

Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within tax compliance and reporting workflows.

Develop and maintain standardized documentation, templates, and checklists for recurring tax filings and reviews.

Leverage enterprise generative AI tools to assist in day to day process improvements and output

Stay current on legislative and regulatory changes, proactively assessing and communicating impacts to the business.

Mentor and coach junior tax team members and finance peers on tax concepts, compliance processes, and best practices to build internal tax capability.

Provide guidance and constructive feedback to team members reviewing or preparing tax filings, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.

Act as a subject matter resource for cross-functional colleagues, proactively sharing knowledge on tax implications of business decisions.
What you'll bring to this role:
-
Experienced in managing tax in a finance function, including corporate income tax, indirect taxes (e.g., GST/HST, VAT, Sales & Use Tax), withholding tax requirements, and international tax principles (transfer pricing, BEPS, cross-border taxation, tax treaties).

Hands-on experience with advanced IFRS income tax accounting, global tax risk mitigation, tax governance/internal controls, and managing complex tax projects.

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field is required (Master's degree in Taxation or specialized advanced tax courses strongly preferred).

CPA/CA designation strongly preferred, alongside preferred completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Program or In-Depth GST/HST Program.

Advanced technical proficiency in tax modeling using spreadsheet software (Excel, Google Sheets), ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365), tax automation tools/software (e.g., Taxprep, Avalara), and experience leveraging AI-driven tax platforms.

Strong written and verbal communication skills to deliver stakeholder advice, translate complex tax concepts, prepare technical memos, and liaise with external advisors and government authorities.

Proven ability to coach, mentor, and collaborate with peers and junior staff, fostering a respectful, inclusive, and knowledge-sharing team culture.
