Position Summary
Reporting to the VP, Finance, the Tax Accountant supports the company’s recurring tax compliance calendar by preparing and timely filing a range of tax returns and payments, maintaining reconciliations, and supporting schedules that underpin the company’s indirect tax function.

The role is broad and varied, offering exposure across the company’s tax compliance work.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and timely file the company’s recurring indirect tax returns and remit the associated payments, including property tax, sales and use tax, and business & occupation (B&O) tax, ensuring all obligations are met accurately and by their deadlines.
- Maintain the property tax compliance calendar, including property tax renditions and returns across the company’s jurisdictions.
- Prepare and file federal excise tax forms, including Form 720 (quarterly federal excise tax return) and Form 8849 (excise tax refund/credit claims), and submit required zero filings.
- Prepare monthly tax journal entries and accruals as part of the month-end close.
- Prepare monthly terminal and gallon reconciliations and the supporting schedules that feed the company’s excise tax filings and information returns.
- Manage the company’s surety bonds and related premium payments — ensuring timely renewals, and that premium and bulk bills are accurately prepared, posted, and paid — and maintain licensing and registration requirements.
- Complete periodic regulatory and energy reporting (such as Department of Energy filings) on the required cadences.
- Support annual information reporting, including the preparation and filing of all Form 1099s.
- Research and resolve jurisdictional notices and discrepancy letters.
- Maintain the standardization of returns, supporting schedules, and work papers; document and improve procedures (SOPs); and identify opportunities to streamline and automate.
- Assist with jurisdictional audit requests by providing supporting documentation as needed.
- Provide cross-functional support to other areas of the Finance team as needed, particularly during peak periods.
- Assist management with various projects and tasks as needed; other duties as assigned.
