Palm House is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Staff Accountant to join our Finance team. This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and wants to contribute to the success of a luxury boutique hotel.
The Staff Accountant will support daily accounting operations, maintain accurate financial records, assist with month-end closing, and help ensure compliance with established financial controls and procedures. The ideal candidate is analytical, dependable, and committed to accuracy, confidentiality, and timely follow-through.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and post journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, balance sheet accounts, and general ledger activity.
- Review financial transactions for accuracy, appropriate coding, and proper documentation.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash-management functions as needed.
- Assist with daily revenue reconciliation and review hotel operating reports.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies promptly.
- Maintain organized and audit-ready financial records.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing requested documentation.
- Follow established internal controls, accounting procedures, and company policies.
- Collaborate with hotel departments to obtain financial information and resolve questions.
- Protect confidential employee, guest, vendor, and company information.
- Perform additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two years of accounting experience; hotel or hospitality accounting experience is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entries, account reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and month-end closing procedures.
- Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial spreadsheets.
- Experience working with accounting, payroll, and hotel-management systems is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, discretion, and confidentiality.
- Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and audit-ready financial records.
- Flexibility to work additional hours during month-end, year-end, audits, and other critical business periods when necessary.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by telephone, and electronically.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift or carry items weighing up to 20 pounds.
