Job Description:
The Senior General Ledger Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and supporting accurate and timely financial reporting. This position will perform complex accounting activities, account reconciliations, journal entries, month-end close procedures, and financial analysis.
· Manage and maintain assigned general ledger accounts and ensure transactions are recorded accurately
· Prepare, review, and post journal entries, including recurring, accrual, prepaid, and adjusting entries
· Perform monthly balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations
· Investigate and resolve discrepancies and unusual account activity
· Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
· Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
· Analyze account balances and financial activity to identify trends, variances, and potential errors
· Assist with revenue and expense recognition and ensure transactions are recorded in the appropriate accounting period
· Maintain accurate supporting documentation for journal entries and account reconciliations
· Assist with fixed asset accounting, depreciation, and related reconciliations as needed
· Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other accounting functions as needed
· Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
· Prepare financial reports and analysis for management
· Support internal and external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and requested information
· Assist with tax-related reporting and compliance activities as needed
· Research accounting issues and apply appropriate accounting principles to resolve them
· Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting
· Assist with the development and implementation of accounting procedures and internal controls
· Maintain accurate and organized accounting records
· Collaborate with other departments to research transactions and resolve accounting questions
· Provide guidance and support to less experienced accounting team members
· Participate in special projects and other accounting initiatives as assigned
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
· 4+ years of progressive accounting experience with significant general ledger experience
· Strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and general ledger accounting
· Experience with month-end and year-end close processes
· Strong experience preparing journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations
· Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies or unusual activity
· Strong attention to detail and accuracy
· Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to work with financial data and spreadsheets
· Experience working with an ERP or accounting system
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
· Strong written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with accounting and operational teams
Preferred Qualifications
· CPA or CPA eligibility
· Experience with financial reporting and financial statement preparation
· Experience with budgeting and forecasting
· Experience with fixed assets, accruals, prepaid expenses, and revenue recognition
· Experience supporting external audits
· Experience with accounting system implementations or process improvements
· Previous experience mentoring or providing guidance to junior accounting staff
