POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for independently managing key accounting functions supporting the MIA manufacturing facility. This position provides leadership in manufacturing accounting, inventory control, product costing, month-end closing, account reconciliations, financial analysis, and internal controls.
The Senior Staff Accountant partners with Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Plant Finance leadership to ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and compliant with company policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). This role investigates financial and operational variances, identifies root causes, recommends corrective actions, and supports continuous improvement across both facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Manufacturing Accounting Process
- Independently manage and oversee daily manufacturing accounting processes.
- Review and validate production reporting, inventory backflushing, manufacturing entries, and related transactions in JD Edwards.
- Analyze production, material usage, labor, overhead, yield, scrap, and inventory variances.
- Investigate significant or unusual variances, determine root causes, and communicate findings and recommend corrective actions to Operations and the Plant Controller.
- Partner with Operations to improve the accuracy and timeliness of production reporting and manufacturing transactions.
- Monitor manufacturing accounting activities to ensure transactions are complete, properly supported, and recorded in the appropriate accounting period bill of material
- Lead the creation, review, and maintenance of bills of materials, routings, and related product-costing information.
- Review new and revised bills of materials for accuracy.
- Analyze the financial impact of formula changes, packaging changes, substitutions, new products, and process improvements.
- Support standard-cost updates, cost-roll activities, new product costing, and annual cost-setting processes.
- Monitor BOM accuracy and investigate material usage or cost variances that may indicate master-data or production-reporting issues.
- Month end closing responsibilities.
- Independently perform assigned month-end and year-end closing responsibilities in accordance with established deadlines.
- Prepare and post standard, recurring, and adjusting journal entries with complete and accurate supporting documentation.
- Prepare complex balance-sheet account reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
- Perform manufacturing account analysis and explain significant period-over-period, budget-to-actual, and standard-to-actual variances.
- Ensure expenses, receipts, inventory activity, accruals, and adjustments are recorded in the correct accounting period.
- Support the Plant Controller with financial statement review, closing schedules, management reporting, and audit requests.
- Inventory
- Provide accounting leadership for cycle counts, physical inventories, inventory reconciliations, and related control activities.
- Coordinate with Operations and Warehouse teams to promote accurate inventory reporting across raw materials, packaging, work-in-process, and finished goods.
- Independently research inventory discrepancies, identify root causes, and recommend appropriate adjustments or corrective actions.
- Prepare and process approved inventory adjustments supported by cycle-count results.
- Review negative inventory, unprocessed transactions, inventory movements, transfer activity, and other exceptions that may affect inventory accuracy.
- Review inventory adjustments and significant variances with the Plant Controller and Operations leadership.
- Responsible for food safety and quality.
- Other tasks as assigned.
