Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing and supporting a broad range of accounting activities for Hi-Tech and its subsidiary, including general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, month-end close, accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash activity, and financial reporting. This role is hands-on and detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy, timely execution, internal controls, and effective use of NetSuite. The Senior Accountant works directly with the CFO and business stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain reliable financial information. This is a growth role: the successful candidate will be mentored by the CFO and progressively take on greater ownership of the close, financial reporting, tax, and audit responsibilities, with a path toward senior finance leadership.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger and Close
• Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, amortization, depreciation, reclasses, and other recurring or non-routine entries.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and investigate, document, and resolve variances or reconciling items.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and help ensure deadlines are met.
• Review financial results for unusual activity and prepare variance explanations for management.
• Maintain organized supporting schedules and documentation for audit and review purposes.
Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
• Support customer invoicing, cash application, credit memos, collections reporting, and accounts receivable aging analysis.
• Process and review vendor invoices, employee expenses, payment requests, and vendor statements for accurate coding and approvals.
• Assist with payment runs and investigate discrepancies, duplicate payments, or unresolved vendor balances.
• Partner with internal teams and external customers or vendors to resolve billing and payment issues.
Cash, Tax, and Compliance Support
• Prepare bank, credit card, and other cash reconciliations and monitor cash-related activity for accuracy.
• Support sales and use tax, payroll tax, property tax, and other applicable tax compliance activities by gathering data and maintaining documentation.
• Assist with external audit, tax preparation, and other compliance requests.
• Follow established accounting policies, approval requirements, and internal controls.
NetSuite and Process Improvement
• Use NetSuite to record, review, reconcile, and report accounting transactions across the general ledger and subledgers.
• Maintain data integrity within NetSuite, including chart of accounts, customer and vendor records, saved searches, reports, and supporting schedules.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, reduce manual work, and increase reporting efficiency.
• Document procedures and support system enhancements, testing, and issue resolution.
Growth and CFO Partnership
• Serve as the CFO’s primary accounting resource and provide backup and continuity across all core accounting functions.
• Progressively assume ownership of month-end close, financial statement preparation, and management reporting.
• Learn and take on coordination of tax filings, outside CPA and audit relationships, banking and lender reporting, and payroll-related accounting.
• Build a working knowledge of operations, intercompany activity, and the drivers of cost and margin.
• Document accounting processes and institutional knowledge to strengthen continuity.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end close responsibilities.
• Required: hands-on experience using NetSuite for general ledger and accounting operations, including reporting and account or subledger reconciliations.
• Working knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
• Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyze financial data accurately.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Desire to grow into a senior finance leadership role and readiness to take on increasing responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
• CPA, CMA, or progress toward a relevant professional certification.
• Experience in a multi-entity, multi-state, or growing company environment.
• Experience supporting tax filings, audits, system implementations, or accounting process automation.
• Experience with NetSuite modules, workflows, saved searches, dashboards, or report customization.
Measures of Success
• Close activities, journal entries, and reconciliations are completed accurately and on schedule.
• Financial records are complete, well supported, and compliant with company policies.
• AR, AP, cash, and tax support activities are processed promptly and with appropriate controls.
• NetSuite data, reports, and accounting records remain accurate and reliable.
• Issues are identified early, resolved efficiently, and communicated clearly to stakeholders.
• Steadily assumes ownership of close, reporting, and compliance responsibilities under the CFO’s mentorship.
