Senior Carrier Procurement Specialist

About the Job: 

As a Strategic Carrier Procurement Representative, you are the bridge between our shipping needs, our transportation partners, our technology, and our sales growth. Operating with a "carrier-first" philosophy, you will build deep, reliable capacity networks that our sales team can leverage as a competitive advantage to win new customers while also driving BtM & service improvements on current volume.

A core focus of this role is protecting our margins and driving cost savings by aggressively lowering our Buy-to-Market (BtM) spread through expert rate negotiation and long-term contract management. Additionally, you will collaborate with our product teams to refine the digital tools our carriers use daily, ensuring we remain their partner of choice.

What You'll Do (Key Responsibilities)

• Drive Cost Savings (Lower BtM): Protect and expand margins by consistently lowering Buy-to-Market (BtM) costs, utilizing expert negotiation strategies and securing competitive long-term contract rates with carriers.
• Drive Growth via Carrier-First Capacity: Build and maintain deep, high-quality carrier relationships so our sales team can confidently pitch guaranteed, dedicated capacity to prospective shippers.
• Support Sales & Volume Acquisition: Partner with customer sales teams during the bidding and RFP process. Provide real-time capacity guarantees, lane pricing, and commitments that help win new customer accounts and increase freight volume.
• Build & Contract the Network: Source, vet, and onboard high-quality carriers across dry van, reefer, flatbed, and specialized modes, locking them into stable, cost-effective contract agreements.
• Be the Voice of the Carrier: Gather feedback from our carrier partners regarding their experience using our digital tools, portals, or tracking apps, and share these insights with our Product and Engineering teams.
• Collaborate on Product Design: Work closely with product managers to test, refine, and launch new carrier-facing features, ensuring our technology solves real-world driver and dispatcher problems.

Basic Qualifications: 

• Ideally 3-5+ years of experience within the carrier management, carrier procurement, carrier sales, or a related position. 
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience 
• A deep understanding of full truckload pricing, lane dynamics, and US freight market trends across multiple modes of freight. 
• Proficiency with data management systems and ability to present. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Hands-on experience with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), freight market intelligence tools (like DAT, Truckstop, or Sonar), and Google Sheets.
• Experience collaborating with product, tech, or UX teams to improve software, platforms, or mobile apps is a huge plus
• Comfort collaborating with customer-facing sales teams, joining strategic shipper calls, and using capacity as a selling tool to secure new volume.
• Strong, confident communication skills with a proven track record of beating market averages, lowering Buy-to-Market (BtM) margins, and securing favorable contract rates within a 3PL, 4PL or a similar environment

Illinois: The target base salary for this role is between $72,000- $85,000
