Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is a highly skilled accounting professional responsible for complex general ledger accounting, month-end close activities, financial reconciliations, loan, secondary market, and investment accounting for the Credit Union. This role performs advanced accounting functions that require strong technical knowledge of GAAP, credit union operations, loan accounting, investments, mortgage servicing activity, and financial systems. The Senior Accountant applies independent judgment, analytical review, and cross-functional coordination to ensure accurate financial reporting, timely close execution, strong internal controls, and reliable accounting support for management decision-making.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities

- Prepare, review, and post journal entries and uploads within accounting systems, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Serve as the primary accounting resource for secondary market mortgage activities, ensuring accurate recording and reporting of transactions.
- Manage accounting activities related to real estate loan portfolios.
- Perform accounting for purchased and sold loan participation activities, including related reconciliations and reporting.
- Manage investment accounting activities, including principal and interest postings, general ledger reconciliations, review of derivative and interest rate swap reporting, and monitoring of collateral management activities.
- Prepare and review loan adjustment accounting, including repossessed assets, fair value impairments, amortized cost recognition, and loan portfolio balance reconciliations.
- Perform balance sheet reconciliations and supporting analyses; research, resolve, and document reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Participate in and support the timely and accurate completion of month-end and year-end close processes.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Ensure assigned accounting activities comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Credit Union policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation, record retention, audit support, and process evidence for assigned accounting functions.
- Support internal audits, external audits, and regulatory examinations by preparing requested schedules, reports, and supporting documentation.
- Maintain advanced working knowledge of Workday, Symitar, mortgage servicing platforms, investment reporting tools, participation portals, and Microsoft Excel to support process improvements, automation, system maintenance, and reporting accuracy.
- Identify and implement opportunities to strengthen internal controls, improve close efficiency, automate manual processes, enhance reporting accuracy, and reduce operational risk.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and technical resource for assigned accounting functions, providing guidance, training, and support to team members as needed.
- Collaborate effectively with internal departments, external service providers, and business partners to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.
- Attend educational workshops, professional development programs, and training opportunities to remain current on accounting standards, regulatory requirements, industry trends, and system enhancements.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Knowledge of Wellby’s organizational functions and general operating policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, business English, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of personal computer, utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and other software’s.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Knowledge of NCUA regulations and financial institution reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Skilled in operating computer equipment and general office machines such as personal computers, copiers, projection equipment, audio/video, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Video Communications, and adding devices.
- Skilled in financial reporting and analysis.
- Skilled in general ledger management and account reconciliation.

- Ability to analyze complex financial transactions and accounting issues
- Ability to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance in financial reporting

- Must be able to occasionally lift items weighing up to 25 pounds across the office and load them onto shelves for various needs.

- Work involves the typical risks and discomforts associated with an office environment but is usually in an adequately cooled, heated, lighted, and ventilated area.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience required, preferably within a financial institution, credit union environment preferred.
- Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, month-end close activities, and financial reporting support required.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
- Workday and Symitar/Jack Henry experience preferred.
