RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Perform and oversee monthly bank and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Manage general ledger activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, account analysis, and month-end close processes
- Oversee full-cycle accounts payable, including invoice processing, vendor management, payment scheduling, and reconciliation of company credit cards
- Manage SSVF grant accounts receivable, including tracking eligible expenses, calculating drawdown amounts, and preparing and submitting related invoices, and performing bank runs for deposits
- Support grant accounting, including tracking restricted funds and preparing financial reports for funders
- Ensure compliance with grant terms, conditions, and reporting requirements; monitor grant activities to ensure adherence to funding restrictions and guidelines
- Assist with preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards (GAAP)
- Assist with preparing monthly variance financial reports and analyzing budget-to-actual results
- Record and reconcile payroll entries, including preparation of payroll journal entries and related cash funding entries in coordination with HR or payroll providers
- Maintain and utilize Sage accounting system for accurate financial recordkeeping, reporting, and analysis
- Provide technical accounting support and guidance to accounting team members as needed
- Maintain internal controls and assist in process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
- Support annual audits and preparation of schedules and documentation for external auditors
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local nonprofit financial regulations
- Perform all other job duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulations
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups) and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, QuickBooks, NetSuite)
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and strong analytical problem-solving skills
- Aptitude for confidentiality, organizational skills and good interpersonal skills.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills.
- Ability to manage month-end close, budgeting/forecasting, tax reporting, and ensuring internal control compliance.
- Experience with nonprofit accounting is preferred, including grant accounting, audit experience and Form 990 preparation.
- Special aptitude for accuracy, confidentiality, organizational skills, and good interpersonal skills.
- CPA (or CPA candidate) preferred
- Sage Intacct accounting system experience preferred
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and background check.
WORK REQUIREMENTS
- The Senior Accountant must have the ability to learn the policies, procedures, activities and programs of the Accounting Department quickly and accurately. He/she must be able to type at an acceptable rate of speed, maintain records and files including alpha, numeric and chronological records, and be able to understand and follow oral and written directions.
