The mission of the role is to lead purchasing and procurement activities for the Maryville Promat Plant and its hosted business units. This role serves as the primary procurement resource for the organization and is responsible for sourcing materials, managing supplier relationships, maintaining inventory levels, executing purchasing strategies, and supporting supply continuity.
The Procurement Specialist collaborates closely with production, planning, operations, customer service, logistics, finance, and suppliers to ensure the timely procurement of materials while balancing cost, quality, delivery performance, and inventory objectives. Success in this role is achieved through maintaining uninterrupted supply, optimizing inventory investments, reducing procurement risk, and supporting operational excellence and business growth.
What you’ll do:
- Adhere to all U.S. laws and regulations, Etex Code of Ethics, and plant safety policies.
- Serve as the primary buyer for the Maryville operation and hosted business units.
- Create, issue, and manage purchase orders for raw materials, packaging, MRO supplies, and other operational requirements.
- Perform MRP analysis and execute procurement plans to ensure material availability.
- Monitor inventory levels and maintain appropriate stock levels to support production and customer demand.
- Analyze inventory trends, usage patterns, and forecasts to determine purchasing requirements.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, intercompany plants, and service providers.
- Source new suppliers and evaluate supplier capabilities, pricing, quality, delivery performance, and risk.
- Negotiate pricing, delivery terms, contracts, and service agreements when appropriate.
- Establish and maintain backup sources for critical materials and high-demand items.
- Assess financial and operational risks associated with purchasing decisions and supply disruptions.
- Review supplier performance metrics and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Track and follow up on deliveries to ensure on-time fulfillment and resolve shortages, delays, or quality concerns.
- Coordinate communication between suppliers and internal stakeholders including Production, Planning, Logistics, Customer Service, Warehouse, and Finance.
- Provide timely updates to Customer Service and operations regarding material shortages, late deliveries, or supply risks.
- Manage purchasing documentation including purchase orders, contracts, supplier records, inventory reports, and related documentation.
- Support Accounts Payable with invoice reconciliation and resolution of purchasing-related discrepancies.
- Manage purchasing interactions including non-conformance reports, supplier corrective actions, certificates of origin, and other procurement documentation.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve supplier performance, and minimize obsolete inventory.
- Assist with periodic (at least annual) physical inventory audits.
- Participate in supplier visits, audits, negotiations, and performance reviews as needed.
- Support strategic supply chain initiatives, process improvements, and business growth activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring:
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Operations, Finance, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- Experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, inventory management, or sourcing within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience managing supplier relationships and purchase order processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of MRP and inventory management principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Experience using ERP systems such as SAP.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work independently.
Preferred Skills
- Manufacturing industry procurement experience.
- Experience with supplier negotiations and contract management.
- Knowledge of international purchasing, logistics, and Incoterms.
- APICS, CPSM, CPPB, or related supply chain certification.
- Spanish language skills.
