Payroll / HR Supervisor (Part-Time – 10 Hours per Week)

Seeking an experienced Payroll / HR Supervisor to lead the improvement and oversight of our payroll operations while strengthening HR administrative processes. This role is ideal for a seasoned payroll professional who enjoys building efficient processes, creating documentation, and implementing best practices in a collaborative nonprofit environment. Working approximately 10 hours per week in a hybrid schedule, the Payroll / HR Supervisor will evaluate our current payroll environment, identify opportunities for improvement, develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure accurate and compliant payroll processing using Paycom.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Administration
- Oversee the accurate processing of biweekly payroll for approximately 165 employees.
- Review payroll transactions for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Audit payroll records and identify inconsistencies or process deficiencies.
- Ensure payroll practices comply with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
- Review payroll reports, deductions, taxes, garnishments, and benefit withholdings.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert for payroll-related questions.
Process Improvement
- Conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current payroll environment.
- Identify operational inefficiencies, compliance risks, and opportunities for automation.
- Develop recommendations to improve payroll accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
- Create and implement payroll best practices.
- Standardize workflows and documentation.
SOP Development
- Develop comprehensive Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for payroll and related HR processes.
- Document payroll workflows, approvals, reporting, and compliance procedures.
- Establish internal controls and quality assurance processes.
- Train staff on newly developed procedures.
HR Support
- Partner with HR leadership on payroll-related employee matters.
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding payroll processes.
- Assist with HR compliance documentation as needed.
- Collaborate on policy improvements affecting payroll and employee records.
Paycom Administration
- Serve as the organization's primary Paycom resource.
- Optimize system configuration and payroll workflows.
- Recommend improvements within Paycom to streamline payroll processing and reporting.
- Assist with report creation and system troubleshooting.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll administration experience with increasing levels of responsibility.
- Demonstrated experience using Paycom (required).
- Experience supervising or leading payroll functions.
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and wage and hour compliance.
- Experience creating payroll procedures, documentation, and SOPs.
- Knowledge of HRIS systems and HR administration.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification preferred.
- Previous nonprofit experience is a plus.
- Experience leading payroll cleanup, process improvement, or system optimization projects.
- Experience implementing internal controls and compliance initiatives.
