The Payroll Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of three in a fast-paced, high-volume environment to complete accurate and timely multi-state payroll and related duties. This position leads by demonstrating our “Leading with Love” culture – leading through humility, empathy and integrity to foster a culture of trust, collaboration, accountability and respect. The Payroll Supervisor will act as back up to the team and the Payroll Manager as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the team:

· Lead and support the payroll team in a manner consistent with Herschend’s “Leading with Love” approach.

· Use judgement to escalate processing and/or team issues to manager as necessary.

· Balance customer service to employees and property management with efficiency of operation, providing excellent quality customer service to internal employees as well as outside sources.

· Maintain payroll guidelines and drive standardization and efficiency by establishing, writing and updating desk procedures.

· Responsible for training of new hires within the Payroll team.

· Use independent judgment, logic and analytical skills in problem solving.

· Practice flexible leadership, professional management skills, and consultative and participative decision-making skills.

· Train to serve as backup to the Payroll Manager and coordinators.

Oversee and support timely and accurate payroll processing:

· Ensure timely and accurate completion of all payrolls while ensuring compliance with federal, state and local laws.

· Review and approve payrolls prior to finalization, correcting errors as necessary.

· Work collaboratively to obtain compliance with payroll timelines and procedures.

· Act as a resource to Payroll Coordinators for all payroll related processing issues, including troubleshooting system issues, working with technical support, IT and others as required.

· Maintain complete confidentiality of employee information.

Provide leadership and oversight for all Payroll Tax functions; support internal and external audits:

· Lead quarter end and year end activities, payroll tax oversight and ad hoc projects.

· Perform reconciliations and balancing of payroll liabilities each pay period.

· Lead auditing, balancing and finalization of quarter and year end data and reporting.

· Responsible for working with our third-party payroll tax administrator to submit, track and resolve all tax inquiries.

· Collect data for Workers Compensation audits, 401K audits, etc. and work with internal teams for submission.

Contribute to a culture of Continuous Improvement:

· Evaluate payroll practices critically and continually to identify, and implement, opportunities for increased effectiveness, efficiency, accuracy and compliance with federal, state and local laws.

Other duties may be assigned.

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

· BS in Accounting/Finance or related field; or equivalent experience.

· 2 - 3 years' progressive experience in Accounting/Finance field, experience in full-cycle payroll administration preferred.

· Strong leadership skills with demonstrated mindset of continuous improvement, ability to lead others with compassion, flexibility adapting to changes in support of the business and proven record of meeting deadlines.

· Knowledge of payroll processing best practices, payroll tax administration and filing, and other payroll disciplines preferred.

· Multi-state payroll tax experience preferred.

· Experience with UltiPro (UKG) and/or Workday preferred.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

· Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet preparation utilizing Microsoft Excel.

· Ability to work effectively with others in a friendly, professional manner.

· Strong attention to detail.

· Self-supervised and disciplined to prioritize and complete work on a timely basis.

· Demonstrated ability to lead with humility, respect and a people-first mindset while fostering a positive and supportive team culture.
