Payroll Specialist
This role ensures our client's payroll is processed accurately and on time across a growing group of multi-state companies. Working closely with the HR team, the Payroll Specialist keeps employee payroll data complete and accurate, maintains compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and delivers ongoing analysis of payroll metrics to support the business.
As a Payroll Specialist, you will:
- Process payroll accurately and on time across multiple companies, including multi-state payrolls, with the portfolio expected to grow throughout the year
- Manage time and attendance processing, partnering with the HR team to ensure employee hours are approved and interfaced with payroll on schedule
- Balance payroll each cycle, ensuring tax withholdings and deductions are deposited to the appropriate third parties, resolving exceptions, and maintaining supporting documentation
- Partner with HR to ensure the accuracy and completeness of employment and personal data, tax and benefits elections, and mandated child support, garnishments, and other withholdings
- Maintain company tax profiles in partnership with the HRIS platform provider, ensuring all federal, state, and local tax accounts are set up and current
- Coordinate year-end reporting, including accurate and timely W-2 processing
- Prepare documentation to support workers' compensation and other audits as assigned
- Apply working knowledge of payroll law and compliance, including benefits and 401(k) requirements
- Prepare payroll journal entries for Finance review and reconcile payroll reporting to the general ledger
- Analyze payroll metrics and deliver reporting on payroll-related data as requested
- Support month-end and year-end close, completing assigned tasks within the broader finance calendar
As a Payroll Specialist, you have:
- Payroll experience: 3-5 years processing payroll for a multi-site, multi-state organization
- Systems experience: Familiarity with automated time and attendance systems, third-party HRIS platforms, and ERP systems
- Payroll accounting knowledge: Solid grasp of payroll accounting, processes, procedures, and regulatory compliance
- Technical proficiency: Comfortable working in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Education: GED or high school diploma required
Preferred:
- Associate degree
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation
Work Location Details: On-site; Office Location Industrial Parkway, Cleveland
Placement Type: 3 - 6 Month Temporary assignment
Estimated Schedule: 25 hours/ week (Part-time)
