The Opportunity

The Payroll Lead, US will lead all functions related to the administration and processing of payroll for 800+ employees across multiple states and operates as the immediate subject matter expert and escalation point to resolve issues or discrepancies. Working closely with HR, Finance, Benefits, and HRIS, the position ensures payroll data integrity, supports system and process improvements, and maintains effective payroll controls. The role also provides technical guidance and support to other members of the team.

Responsibilities:

• Process payroll for multiple US pay groups and provide processing back-up for other groups as required
• Act as a US Payroll subject matter expert and resource to other team members
• Payroll validation, auditing, and reconciliation
• Extensive knowledge of the US payroll function, including preparation, balancing, internal controls, and payroll taxes
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local requirements
• Register with new states/localities as needed
• Prepare and review all quarterly and year-end filings
• Internal and external audit support
• Proactively identify and recommend ongoing process improvements, strategies, and best practices
• Develop a firm understanding of the time and attendance system and provide support as required
• Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and compliance with company policies on ethical standards and business practices

Qualifications:

• Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation strongly preferred. The combination of related education and experience will be considered.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience with multi-state payroll is required. Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience is preferred. Manufacturing experience is an asset.
• Experience with UKG, or a similar SaaS HRIS system, is strongly preferred but not required.
• Intermediate to advanced MS Excel proficiency is required.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and payroll taxes.
• Attention to detail and ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
• Self-directed and results oriented.
