About the Position
St. Matthew Catholic Parish & School is seeking an organized, dependable, and detail-oriented Human Resources & Payroll Assistant to provide part-time administrative support for HR and payroll activities across both the Parish and School.
Working closely with St. Matthew leadership and our contracted Human Resources Consultant, this position supports biweekly payroll and timekeeping, employee onboarding and offboarding, personnel records, benefits administration, compliance tracking, recruiting, and other day-to-day HR activities.
This is a great opportunity for someone interested in developing hands-on experience in Human Resources and payroll while contributing to a mission-driven parish and school community. Previous HR or payroll experience is welcome, but not required. Training will be provided on St. Matthew and Archdiocese HR/payroll processes and systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Support biweekly payroll and timekeeping administration, including reviewing timecards, identifying missed punches or other discrepancies, following up on corrections, coordinating with supervisors, and assisting with payroll changes.
- Assist with employee onboarding and offboarding, including new hire paperwork, HRIS setup, background checks, LiveScan, TB clearance, required training and compliance documentation, separation paperwork, and required submissions to Archdiocese HR/Payroll.
- Maintain accurate employee information and confidential personnel records in Paylocity and HR files, including routine employee and employment-status changes and periodic audits.
- Assist with benefits administration, including enrollment materials, eligibility documentation, employee communications, and coordination with Archdiocese benefits representatives.
- Provide administrative support for employee leaves and workers' compensation matters, including distributing and collecting paperwork, tracking documentation and dates, and maintaining confidential records under HR guidance.
- Maintain HR compliance records and trackers, including required employee certifications, training, background clearances, and other recurring requirements.
- Provide administrative support for recruiting, including job postings, applicant correspondence, interview scheduling, and pre-employment documentation.
- Serve as a first point of contact for routine employee questions regarding payroll, timekeeping, benefits, and HR processes, escalating questions requiring HR interpretation or judgment.
- Administrative, office, or customer service experience preferred; HR or payroll experience is a plus but not required.
- College coursework in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to learn and follow multi-step administrative processes, track deadlines, and follow up on outstanding items.
- Good judgment and willingness to ask questions or escalate issues when appropriate.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace and basic spreadsheet management and willingness to learn Paylocity and other HR/payroll systems.
- Interest in learning about Human Resources, employee lifecycle administration, and payroll.
This is a part-time, non-exempt/hourly, onsite position of approximately 20 hours per week. Scheduling is flexible within the school's regular operating hours of approximately 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; however, regular availability is required to support established payroll processing deadlines every other Monday, and some afternoon availability is expected to provide HR/payroll support to instructional staff.
The anticipated pay range is $24.00–$28.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
