UIC is seeking an HRIS Analyst I to join our Human Resource
Information Systems (HRIS) team. This role provides essential support to the
HRIS team by developing and maintaining standard and ad hoc reports, validating
data accuracy, and assisting end users with reporting inquiries. The role
contributes to UIC HR and HRIS initiatives including audits, system updates,
and union contract changes, through data review, testing, and documentation.
The HRIS Analyst I supports a diverse ecosystem of
enterprise HR applications that work together to support the employee
lifecycle. This role is designed for an HRIS professional who thrives in a
multi-system environment, enjoys learning new technologies, and values broad
experience supporting HR systems, reporting, configuration, testing, and data
integrity.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Reporting:
- Builds and maintains standard and ad hoc reports and dashboards in Tableau or other HRIS reporting tools to fulfill reporting requests.
- Tests and validates report results by following requirements and review processes to ensure accuracy and usability.
- Works with members of the UIC Human Resources team to gather report details, clarify requested data elements, and respond to reporting needs.
- Supports end users by helping explain report content, providing basic training or job aids, and escalating complex analytical questions to senior HRIS or data team members as needed.
Projects:
- Participates in periodic or special projects such as audits, system updates, or enhancements by assisting with data review, testing, and documentation.
- Supports HRIS and HR teams on assigned project tasks by applying foundational system knowledge and following established procedures.
- Assists with union contract updates by helping enter and validate pay scale changes, salary adjustments, and related data under the guidance of senior HRIS staff to support accuracy and compliance.
System Configuration:
- Assists with the configuration and maintenance of HR systems by updating data fields, workflows, notifications, and user access as directed and following established procedures.
- Performs initial troubleshooting to identify basic system issues and documents findings for escalation to senior team members or vendors when needed.
- Participates in testing and validation activities for system upgrades or patches to help ensure functionality and data accuracy.
- Supports HRIS upgrades and enhancements by completing assigned reporting tasks, data checks, and responding to project requests under guidance.
- Assists with system updates by supporting testing efforts and helping prepare user documentation or training materials.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study.
- Minimum of one (1) year professional level IT experience within BI Data Analytics & Integration which includes demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and supporting application interfaces, as well as developing, modifying, distributing, and testing reports, metrics, dashboards, and self-service reporting capabilities in the business intelligence suite of tools and applications.
- Current experience supporting data analytics and reporting efforts, including building and maintaining reports or dashboards using tools such as Tableau, SQL, SAP Web Intelligence (WebI), or similar reporting applications.
- Current experience configuring and maintaining various HRIS platforms.
- Current experience with advanced Excel skills, including proficiency in using complex formulas, pivot tables, and conditional formatting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated understanding of HR data domains, including recruiting, job classifications, compensation, employee data, and exposure to union-related environments.
- Experience with automation tools (Power Query, APIs, scripting, or similar technologies).
