Job Description

OBJECTIVES:

• Lead Procurement for specialized Plasma Derived Therapies (PDT) categories (Plasma collection devices and consumables, 3rd party Plasma sourcing, BioLife Logistics, BioLife Real Estate & Facilities) with end-to-end accountability for maximizing enterprise value from external spend (cost, cash, productivity, innovation, risk, ESG).

• Define differentiated, well-articulated category strategies in line with business objectives and orchestrate resources across procurement and the business to deliver them across the global PDT footprint.

• Act as strategic procurement partner to the PDT BU President and their team, co-owning the value delivered from external spend across BioLife, manufacturing sites, and the rest of the business; serve as single point of contact for PDT on all procurement matters.

• Build and lead a high-performing PDT category team, leveraging Value Delivery, Procurement Solutions, and Finance resources to serve PDT’s specific needs and priorities.

ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

• Category Strategy delivery: Develop differentiated, insight-driven category strategies aligned to enterprise priorities; actively shape demand (scope, specifications, delivery models) to optimize total value; drive bold, non-incremental approaches that challenge historical practices and unlock new sources of value.

• Value delivery: Own and deliver a robust pipeline of initiatives aligned to value targets; orchestrate cross-functional delivery with the business, Finance, TBS, and Legal; provide strategic and executional guidance to the Value Delivery and Procurement Solutions teams.

• Accelerated execution: Drive accelerated execution of initiatives, reducing cycle times from strategy to implementation to meet PDT’s target transformation pace; ensure transparency, tracking, and realization of value to the P&L in collaboration with Finance.

• Supplier Base management: Build a high-performing, rationalized, and competitive supplier base; balance consolidation with competition; continuously refresh the supplier ecosystem to access new capabilities, innovation, and advantageous cost structures.

• Strategic supplier partnerships: Build strategic supplier partnerships in key categories (e.g., equipment, logistics); leverage equipment suppliers to improve asset lifecycle performance; own and strengthen relationships with strategic suppliers through SRM, KPIs, and QBRs.

• Business Partnering: Serve as strategic partner to the PDT BU President and their team; integrate inputs from all procurement categories and act as the single interface to PDT; act as a key contributor to engineering, capital planning, and investment decisions related to external services and infrastructure.

• Financial impact: Deliver agreed savings and financial value capture opportunities; drive total cost of ownership (TCO) optimization across equipment and services; support the BioLife strategy through strong real estate site selection and contracting; improve working capital through disciplined payment terms.

• Risk & Compliance: Strengthen third-party risk management (e.g., supply continuity, EHS, regulatory/GxP compliance, contractor risk); design resilient supply chains; ensure external services and contractors operate in full alignment with site-level safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

• Sustainability & ESG: Drive ESG outcomes across PDT spend (Scope 3, responsible sourcing); support or drive decarbonization and resource efficiency initiatives across manufacturing sites and facilities; allocate spend purposefully across the partner ecosystem.

• Capabilities & Team leadership: Build and lead a high-performing, business-oriented category team; ensure access to the right capabilities (tools, expertise, CoEs); develop and coach talent; contribute to the development of the Procurement Strategy and lead its realization.

EDUCATION, BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:  

• Masters’ degree required (e.g., MBA, Master’s in Supply Chain, Finance, or related field) preferred.

• At least 15 years working in biotech/pharma industry, or other highly regulated industries, with progressive leadership of procurement.

• Significant years of progressive procurement leadership experience, with substantial exposure to equipment, services, logistics, and/or real estate categories, ideally within pharma, biotech, or regulated manufacturing environments.

• Proven experience leading global teams in complex, matrixed multinational organizations, ideally within pharma, consumer goods, or industrial sectors.

• Fluent in English

• Equipment and services procurement experience: Strong background in procurement with exposure to a range of different spend categories; deep mastery of the procurement toolkit and ability to deploy it across areas in scope.

• Category management track record: Proven ability to define and execute differentiated category strategies at scale; distinctive thought leadership; strong entrepreneurial mindset with demonstrated ability to drive transformation, challenge the status quo, and deliver results at pace.

• Stakeholder influence: Credible partner for stakeholders across sites, with regional GSQ, REF, and BU leaders across Takeda’s footprint; able to challenge demand and shape decisions.

• Commercial and delivery acumen: Track record of delivering value in complex, global environments; strong risk management mindset.

• Communication skills: Ability to think creatively, engage in effective communication, and be a driver of change.

• Leadership skills: Strong ability to inspire, influence, and lead through others.

• People skills: Experienced people leader, able to demonstrate passion for developing future procurement leaders.

• Partnering skills: Proven track record of building effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

• Organizational skills: Comfortable operating in a highly matrixed environment and demonstrated ability to successfully navigate it while achieving common objectives.

• Language skills: Fluent in English.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

None required. Relevant professional certifications (e.g., CIPS, CPSM) considered an asset.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

• Standard office-based role. Occasional travel required (see Travel Requirements).

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

• Approximately 20–30% international travel expected to engage with PDT business partners, category teams, and key suppliers.

U.S. Base Salary Range:

The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
