Purpose of Position:
The Senior Grant Accountant is responsible for the financial management, accounting, compliance, reporting, and oversight of federal, state, tribal, and private grant awards supporting healthcare and community programs throughout the Norton Sound region. This position serves as a subject matter expert on grant accounting and compliance, ensuring adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), funding agency regulations, and organizational policies.
As a key member of the Finance team, the Senior Grant Accountant works closely with program managers, finance team, and external funding agencies to support the organization's mission of providing quality healthcare services to Alaska Native and American Indian communities. The position requires strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage a complex portfolio of grants and contracts.

Essential Functions:
- Manage the full lifecycle accounting of federal, state, tribal, and private grant awards.
- Monitor grant expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets, grant agreements, and funding requirements.
- Prepare and review monthly grant reconciliations and financial statements.
- Track restricted funds and ensure proper allocation of costs across funding sources.
- Maintain grant accounting records, supporting schedules, and audit-ready documentation.
- Ensure timely recognition of grant revenue in accordance with GAAP and organizational policies.
- Review payroll allocations, indirect cost allocations, and program expenditures for accuracy and compliance.
- Prepare and submit required financial reports to funding agencies.
- Ensure compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200), Single Audit requirements, and applicable federal, state, tribal, and private grant regulations.
- Monitor grant performance against budget and spending timelines.
- Identify compliance risks and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of annual financial audits and Single Audits.
- Respond to auditor inquiries and funding agency requests.
- Collaborate with program managers in the development of grant budgets and budget modifications.
- Analyze budget-to-actual results and provide financial guidance to program leadership.
- Forecast grant revenues and expenditures to support organizational planning.
- Monitor cash flow and reimbursement activity related to grant-funded programs.
- Prepare financial analyses and management reports.
- Serve as a technical resource for grant accounting issues throughout the organization.
- Train program managers and staff on grant compliance and financial management practices.
- Participate in the development and enhancement of internal controls and financial processes.
- Lead or support special projects related to grants management, accounting systems, and compliance initiatives.
- Mentor junior accounting staff as assigned.

Required Knowledge:

- Advanced knowledge of (GAAP) Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Extensive Knowledge of Federal grant regulations including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
- Knowledge of grant funding, indirect cost rates, cost allocations and restricted fund accounting
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
