Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Financial Analyst assists the Finance division with accounting and budgeting, annual year-end audit work, accounts receivable, variance analysis and reconciling of accounts. This position is responsible for financial and program monitoring and reporting for Dufferin Oaks and Community Support Services. In addition, this position inputs transaction batches and reports on problem areas within the accounts.

What you’ll do

• Prepare year-end schedules for Auditors and assists them during their visits
• Prepare for month end by reconciling all bank accounts, inputting month end adjustments, investigate imbalances and prepare monthly financial statements
• Perform reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including investigation of outstanding amounts
• Perform financial analysis, interpret and analyze information to identify issues, opportunities and provide recommendations to ensure financial compliance of programs
• Investigate discrepancies in operating accounts and prepare correcting entries as needed, with emphasis on Dufferin Oaks and Community Support Services
• Process and issue County invoices, perform follow-up collections duties and maintain Accounts Receivable files
• Complete annual Ministry returns for Dufferin Oaks, Community Support Services for review by auditors and submission to Ministries
• Complete a variety of regular reports for Dufferin Oaks and Community Support Services including uploading to the appropriate ministry web portal
• Prepare ministry reports including various statistical reports
• Assist with coordination of data for the operating budget particularly for Dufferin Oaks and Community Services
• Serves as backup for Accounts Payable and Cash Receipts
• Aid County staff on the use of financial software applications
• Suggest and develop improvements to County Financial Policies and Procedures for review by Manager of Corporate Finance, Treasurer or Deputy Treasurer
• Conduct special projects as required by Accounting Manager or Deputy Treasurer
• Other duties as assigned

What you’ll bring

• Degree or diploma in Accounting or Business Administration
• Minimum 3 years of work experience in a similar position
• Knowledge of public sector accounting, financial reporting, auditing and financial control policy and procedures
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Ability to be flexible and responsive in a dynamic environment
• Strong analytical skills pertaining to research, data analysis and report-writing
• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize to meet strict deadlines
• Ability to interact effectively and courteously with all levels of staff and contacts in a customer service focused environment; able to build cooperative, collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers and vendors
• Advanced expertise in Microsoft software including Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint
• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is an asset
• Previous experience working with Provincial Ministry programs is preferred
• Working knowledge of accounting, budget, and banking systems
• Knowledge of Ministry funding processes
• Suitable work from home environment including reliable high speed internet
• A successful police record check
