Financial Accounting Associate I

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing a variety of accounting and finance tasks, including accounts payable, bond, fixed asset, and prepaid accounting; account reconciliations; and preparation of routine board and financial reports.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Accounts Payable Backup (25%)

• Assists with coding invoices and data input.
• Conducts research (internal and external) on vendor invoices.
• Maintains accurate records for Nebraska Sales Tax refunds.
• Assists with processing accounts payable twice per month.
• Assists with tracking accounts payable key performance metrics.
• Assists with the monthly expense posting process for the Bank’s internal Credit Card Program.

Bond Accounting (25%)

• Performs timely and accurate input of investment activity.
• Assists manager in maintaining the investment portfolio and reconciles the balances to the general ledger.
• Performs timely and accurate updates of market values daily using 3^rd party information.

Monthly Board Reports and Other Reports (25%)

• Prepares monthly and quarterly board reports as assigned, accurately and on time.
• Assists with identifying, researching and communicating unusual items.
• Works closely with manager to prepare balance sheet and income statement variance reporting for business units.
• Runs monthly P&L statements for business units from ProfitStar reviews for reasonableness.
• Assists manager with reconciling loan originations and fee income for SNB Mortgage.
• Provides back-up for manager for monthly Profitstar update

Fixed Asset Accounting (10%)

• Assists with recording fixed assets in the Fixed Asset System.
• Monitors fixed assets in process and reconciles monthly.
• Runs fixed asset reports as needed for internal and external requests.

Account Reconciliations (10%)

• Completes GL account reconciliations as assigned.
• Maintains the Account Reconciliation Sign-off Matrix monthly.
• Monitors Zero Balance account activity monthly.

Other duties as assigned (5%)

• Processes trust department withholding payments.
• Runs Business Analytics reports as requested.
• Assists with the preparation of information for internal and external audits.

Performs other duties as required and assigned. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Basic knowledge and understanding of accounting and GAAP principles.
• Proficient skills in MS Excel and MS Word or other spreadsheet and word processing software.
• Good organizational, detail and analytical skills.
• Solid analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Effective written and verbal skills.
• Proficient skills in multi-tasking and prioritizing work.
• Ability to complete required training by assigned due date.
• Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

EDUCATION* 

• Minimum four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting, business or finance or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE*

• Minimum of 1 year of relevant accounting work experience required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stoop or kneel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This job operates in a professional office environment with normal office working conditions. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
