Finance Lead/Controller

ProspectBlue has partnered with a growing company being incubated within an established parent organization to identify a Finance Lead who will help build the financial foundation of the business from the ground up.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys operating across accounting, finance operations, reporting, and business analysis. The ideal candidate will work closely with an experienced finance team while taking meaningful ownership of the day-to-day financial infrastructure of a new business.

To be successful in this position, you must be highly analytical, exceptionally detail-oriented, comfortable operating in ambiguity, and excited to leverage AI and modern tools to work faster and smarter. As the company grows, this person will have the opportunity to help shape and build a standalone finance function.  The role can be based out of Richmond, Virginia or Billings, Montana.

What You’ll Do

• Own day-to-day AP/AR, account reconciliations, and monthly close support
• Support merchant payout operations, monitor transactions, and identify and resolve discrepancies
• Assist with sales tax compliance, 1099 reporting, and vendor management
• Build and maintain financial reporting and dashboards for leadership, including cash position, burn, and unit economics
• Partner with the broader finance team to improve processes, controls, reporting, and financial visibility
• Use AI and automation to streamline recurring finance and accounting workflows
• Investigate financial discrepancies and work cross-functionally to understand and resolve issues
• Help establish the processes, systems, and infrastructure required to support a growing standalone finance organization
• Take on increasing responsibility as the business scales

What We’re Looking For

• 1–3 years of experience in accounting, FP&A, finance operations, or a related analytical finance role
• Strong spreadsheet skills and a high level of comfort working with financial data
• Exceptional attention to detail and a strong instinct for identifying inconsistencies or discrepancies
• A highly AI-enabled mindset — you actively use AI tools to improve how you work, analyze information, automate processes, and solve problems
• Comfortable working in an environment where processes are still being built and priorities can evolve quickly
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to move from detailed financial data to clear business insights
• A willingness and ability to learn quickly while working alongside an experienced finance organization
• Strong ownership mentality and the ability to operate independently
