About the role

Affirm is seeking a Compliance Manager to own compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program. You'll make independent, risk-based calls across card marketing, onboarding, disputes, and remediation, partnering with Product, Engineering, and Operations to ship card features that are compliant and built to last.

What you'll do

• Own end-to-end compliance advisory for the Affirm Card program, including card marketing, checkout, onboarding, wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay), disputes, and servicing, partnering directly with Product, Engineering, and Operations throughout the development lifecycle

• Bring an appetite for the unknown: much of what we build on Card is genuinely new and without precedent, and you take on that ambiguity rather than wait for a playbook

• Apply sound judgment under EFTA (Reg E), TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act, UDAAP, to navigate novel regulatory questions, escalating only where it's genuinely warranted

• Review and approve Affirm Card marketing, disclosures, and UX to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and consistency with consumer protection standards

• Lead root-cause analysis and remediation for Card compliance issues (e.g., disputes, adverse action notices, declines) through to sustainable closure, prioritizing durable fixes over one-off patches so issues don't recur

• Partner with Compliance Testing, Legal, and Risk to prepare for and support regulatory exams and bank partner audits related to the Card program

• Maintain and contribute to the Card program's compliance risk assessment and control inventory, proactively identifying and closing coverage gaps

• Develop and maintain compliance training and reference materials specific to Card regulatory requirements

• Serve as the go-to compliance expert on new and evolving Card features, surfacing risk early in the product lifecycle rather than after launch

What we look for

• 8+ years of experience in a compliance advisory role within financial services with a Bachelor's degree (6+ years with a Master's degree, or 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent), with meaningful experience on card, payments; compliance certifications a plus

• Deep working knowledge of EFTA (Reg E) and TILA (Reg Z)/CARD Act as applied to card products, plus familiarity with TISA (Reg DD) and UDAAP; hands-on experience with card network rules (e.g., Visa, Mastercard) is a big plus

• A demonstrated track record of operating independently in ambiguous, fast-paced environments, making sound, risk-based decisions with incomplete information and escalating only when it truly requires it

• Comfortable partnering closely with Product from the early stages of a build, whether a new product, feature, or servicing program, in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

• Experience owning issues from root-cause analysis through sustainable remediation, with a bias toward fixing the underlying control rather than the immediate symptom

• Experience advising and building credibility with Product, Engineering, and Operations stakeholders on a card, lending, or payments program

• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex, nuanced regulatory issues to non-compliance audiences

• Self-directed with strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills; comfortable being the compliance voice in the room on card-specific questions, including presenting to senior leadership and leadership committees

• Inquisitive and proactive in identifying problems and proposing practical, business-aware solutions
